The U.S. President Donald Trump and the First Lady Melania Trump have been tested positive for Covid-19. The announcement came a few hours after his top aide Hope Hicks was tested positive.
President Trump took the announcement of his covid-19 reports to the twitter that say, both him and the First Lady, Melania Trump have been tested covid positive.
Earlier, President Trump tweeted that his top aide Hope Hicks has been tested positive for covid-19. He traveled with President Trump back and forth from Cleveland aboard Air Force One on Tuesday along with plenty of other places.
President has assured people that he will undergo quarantine with the First Lady and will adhere to the recovery process.
President Trump is 74 years old which puts him in the list of critical cases of Covid 19. So far more than 200,000 people in America have died due to coronavirus and Donald Trump and Melania Trump along with their top aide Hicks are the new addition to the list.
The White House physician Scott Conley said in a memo that President Trump and the First Lady will stay in the White House for the period of their convalescence. He further added, “Rest assured I expect the president to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments,” White House physician Scott Conley said.
Donald Trump was desperate to convince America that the coronavirus pandemic is no more a matter of concern for the country. He assured the people that they were safe to return to their normal lives.
However, it seems like the virus wasn’t okay with being undermined this way. And thus, gave it back to President Trump.
With four weeks to the election, this is one of the biggest additions to the long list of extraordinary events that America has never witnessed right before the elections.
What happens when the President gets diagnosed with Coronavirus?
According to David Axelrod, the former Senior White House Advisor to Barack Obama, “There’s a protocol for everything. We routinely went through drills for what to do in case of terrorist or nuclear attacks, but I honestly never anticipated a pandemic situation like the one the White House is facing now.”
The 25th Amendment of American constitution allows the President to transfer the functioning and power to the Vice President during the period of convalescence and reclaim it once he or she recovers.
However, President Trump doesn’t seem like a man who would let someone else perform his duties even for a day.
And maybe Trump shouldn’t. When the Prime Minister of U.K. Boris Johnson was tested positive for coronavirus, the market was in frenzy. However, he eventually recovered seeding a ray of optimism in the trader’s mind. If Donald Trump continues to carry out his duties while being quarantined, it wouldn’t be a bad impression on the investors.
But, so far, stock market seems to be in trouble after the news of president tested positive went out.
However, if President Trump’s health deteriorates significantly, he should definitely exercise the 25th amendment and transfer the office temporarily to Vice President Mike Pence. Past presidents have done it too.
During his presidency, George W. Bush underwent a medical procedure where he handed over the office to the Vice President twice. Ronald Reagan did it too for his colon surgery.
In case Trump’s health worsens to a worrisome extent and he still refuses to transfer the office temporarily (which is highly a chance in Donald Trump’s case), then the cabinet and the vice president enjoy the right to exercise the 25th amendment of the constitution.
What happens if both the president and the vice president pass away?
In extreme conditions where the president and vice president of America both die, the oval is transferred to the speaker of the house. In today’s scenario, Nancy Pelosi would occupy the White House if both, President Trump and Vice President Pence, dies.
Donald Trump has been diagnosed positive for coronavirus which puts the entire staff of White House and other people they’ve met recently on the radar of infection.
What if, President Trump was taking precautions and wearing masks, the story would have been different.
