Sci-fi drama Person of Interest and Science comedy The Big Bang Theory sits high on the list of the most anticipated TV reboot on CBS. Viewers seem to have made their verdict clear — Harold Finch and Sheldon Cooper seem to be ruling the charts
- Two great shows that has been the TV network’s best offerings
- Is CBS considering the popular TV reboots to battle Netflix?
- Release dates updates of Person of Interest season 6 and Big Bang Theory season 13
The two shows had a high viewership and fans screamed themselves hoarse because they did not want the feast to end. It also does not bode well for CBS as most TV audiences seem bored with the repetitive content.
They are making a beeline for Netflix and Prime Video, leading to huge losses for the network. What does CBS do against such fierce competitors? Should it let the ship sink, or reboot the popular shows on its network?
The best of CBS: Person of Interest and Big Bang Theory: the best of CBS
Person of Interest is a science-fiction drama that aired on CBS between 2011 and 2016. With 103 episodes, it was one of the most successful shows for creator Jonathan Nolan. The series brought good ratings for the network. TV critics applauded it too.
It explored the concept of artificial intelligence in handling crime scenes. The AI character ‘The Machine’ can predict murders before they take place, thus could draw up a list of “persons of interest” for its creator Harold Finch (Michael Emerson) and possible crimes. Harold would then investigate the imminent crime and delve into the mystery.
Fans were enjoying the intense plot when CBS decided to cancel the series after just five seasons. There was no reason to axe the series that grabbed 10 million sets of eyeballs. CBS justified this with explanations of ad revenue going to Warner Bros. Things would have been different if they had a 100 per cent ownership of the series.
The Big Bang Theory was another highly popular show that fans enjoyed more with every season. CBS enjoyed massive popularity in the network television because of the series. The show is so popular that people are still watching reruns. We are watching too!
Unlike in the case of Person of Interest, CBS wanted a renewal of The Big Bang Theory for another season. But Jim Parsons, who played Sheldon Cooper, played spoilsport and said he was bored doing the same thing. Without him, it didn’t make sense to continue. Fans have not forgiven Jim for getting The Big Bang Theory off air.
Is CBS considering the popular TV reboots to battle Netflix?
With Netflix and other streaming platforms jumping into the fray, popular TV networks are suffering. With an ultimate fall staring at them, they are trying to redeem themselves with anything that will keep them relevant.
With rumour mills spinning stories around CBS, it is considering a reboot of Person of Interest and The Big Bang Theory, to keep the audience interested. There is no official confirmation yet, but we are hoping they are true, because who would not like to see the iconic characters on screen again?
Most Americans are asking for a reboot. We can only hope CBS listens too. Give us a shoutout in the comments section if you want a reboot.
