The star-cast included Kaley Cuoco as Penny, the lovable neighbour who moves in across the hall from two nerdy Caltech physicists – the genius Sheldon and his roommate Leonard (played by Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki), their just as socially-awkward friends astrophysicist Raj Koothrapalli (Kunal Nayyar) who is goofy and terrified of talking to women, and aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) who dons skinny pants like they were specially made for him.
The news that the sitcom was coming to an end came as a shock to the viewers and the cast, given that the series was reportedly in talks to be renewed for a 13th season. But Jim Parsons’ decision to discontinue the show ended all hopes for ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reboot, much to the dismay of cast member Kaley Cuoco who is championing the idea.
Kaley and the cast are still upset about the show’s untimely end
While the programming team at CBS was confident that season 12 wouldn’t mark the end of ‘The Big Bang Theory’s’ successful 12-year run, they went from announcing 2 new seasons to announcing the end of the series in just two weeks.

While the announcement came from the network, the real reason behind it was Jim Parsons’ decision to discontinue playing Sheldon Cooper, the show’s breakout character. His decision became a catalyst for the network to end the show. Jim gave the show’s fans closure and explained why he chose not to continue, as reported by “The Hollywood Reporter”.

“There was no factor; there was no situation that I was like, ‘Well, I’ve had enough of that.’ No. There was nothing like that. It was just … when you know, you know. And you’re susceptible and thrown around by the whims of your own existence and getting to a certain age and your life changes and suddenly you just think different”, Parsons confessed.
The cast was heartbroken, with Kaley Cuoco pouring her heart out in an emotional post on Instagram. She said the show’s end left her “drowning in tears”.
“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ during the past twelve seasons”, WBTV and Chuck Lorre Productions said in a statement.
Kaley Cuoco might secretly shepherd ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reboot
It doesn’t come as a surprise to us that Kaley Cuoco (Penny) might just form a secret society against Jim Parsons aka Sheldon Cooper, after his decision to call it quits on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reboot left everyone in the show’s ensemble cast feeling upset and betrayed.
In fact, Kaley has talked about doing a reboot for over a year now! In an exclusive interview with “Entertainment Tonight”, she joked about how she’d be ready to revisit her character and star in the reboot “in a year”. Kaley went ahead and explained that she just wasn’t ready to leave the show after 12 sweet years.
“I don’t wanna leave either”, Cuoco confessed. “Everyone’s saying the same thing. It’s so sweet … 12 years …”

Will ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reboot ever happen?
‘The Big Bang Theory’ reboot might never see the light of day. The cast has moved on to different things, Kaley Cuoco is finally moving on and playing producer and actress in a new series ‘The Flight Attendant’, the story of which is based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian. It will premiere on HBO Max. Kaley will also feature in the new DC animated series based on clown queen Harley Quinn, as the villainess’ voice.
Jim Parsons recently featured in Netflix’s new television series, ‘Hollywood’, and also narrates and produces the spinoff show ‘Young Sheldon’, a prequel series based on his genius character’s life from TBBT. The rest of them are also assuming new roles and responsibilities, Kunal Nayyar is working on a project for AppleTV+ with Uma Thurman, and Johnny Galecki has made appearances in a 2018 sitcom by ABC, ‘The Conners’.
While the cast doesn’t seem like they’re mad at Jim Parsons’ for ruining the fate of the series, they do seem quite happy to be donning new capes and moving on. Until the cast decides to make a comeback, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reboot will continue to be a mystery.
