According to NBCUniversal Entertainment Networks, fans of the legendary sitcom ‘The Office’ won’t be getting any reboots. Fans will have to let go of the expectations to see their favourite characters on the screen again.
Since its finale in 2013, fans of the sitcom have been waiting for a reboot of the original sitcom or a spin-off series at best. To their dismay, NBC Universal has stated that a reboot of ‘The Office’ is off the cards for the time being. ‘The Office’ was a mockumentary sitcom that ran successfully for 9 seasons from March 24 2005 to March 16 2013.

What NBCUniversal Exactly Stated?
The long wait of fans for a new ‘The Office’ series almost came to an end in late 2019 when Peacock TV streaming platform was unveiled. Its initial slate of original series included reboots of three NBCU series, ‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘Saved By the Bell’ and ‘Punky Brewster’. They were speculated to soon be joined by a new avatar of ‘The Office’.

However, the NBCUniversal denied the speculation about ‘The Office’ reboot:
“Because it does not launch until January, we have not talked specifically about The Office reboots for Peacock; we’ve talked about things we can do to support The Office once it gets to our service but a reboot has not come up specifically for Peacock”, Bill McGoldrick, President of Original Content, NBCUniversal Entertainment Networks and Direct-to-Consumer, told Deadline during an interview tied to Peacock’s July 15 launch.
NBCU collected streaming rights to NBC’s ‘The Office’ for $500+ million, grasping it away from the OTT giant Netflix where the sitcom gained its legendary status. Another hugely famous and acclaimed TV comedy that moved away to Netflix with a deal, ‘Friends‘ was launched on HBO Max with a big reunion special that was released last year in May.
Can Fans Expect ‘The Office’ Reunion?
Does Peacock TV have a similar ‘The Office’ reunion or a special in the vein of what ‘Parks & Recreation’ and ‘30 Rock’ did for NBC?
“Lots of those ideas have been bandied about with people internally and with Greg Daniels and people associated with the show”, McGoldrick said. “As you can imagine, there are lots of creative ideas, we haven’t landed at anyone right now.”
A possible ‘The Office’ reboot with the U.S. version’s developer/executive producer Daniels had been rumoured for years, long before Peacock was announced.
“It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot”, NBCU’s Bonnie Hammer, then-Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer and Digital Enterprises, told Deadline the day Peacock’s name was revealed last September. (She oversees NBCU’s production entities, including Office producer Universal TV.) “The Office comes back to us in January 2021. It is my hope that we can figure what that great reboot would be”, Hammer said back then, adding, “We are having conversations”.
It seems like fans will have to be content with John Krasinski’s ‘The Office’ reunion with co-actors on the Zoom meeting for a couple’s virtual wedding in May of 2020.
