The political leader was arrested while she was visiting her father, jailed former Prime Minister of Pakistan
Daughter of former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz was arrested by the country’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB). A spokesperson for her party confirmed this arrest. Thus, this makes the latest in the many high-profile detentions form the Sharif political dynasty.

Maryam is the vice president of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N). She was arrested on Thursday when she was visiting her father at a Lahore prison. “Maryam Nawaz has been arrested,” Marriyum Aurangzeb, a spokesperson for the party told Reuters news agency.
Later, another spokesperson, Azma Bukhari, said, “Maryam was arrested in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case”. This case in question relates to a sugar mill that the family owns.
NAB, the federal anti-corruption force also confirmed the high-profile arrest. “They have been arrested but where they will be kept will be decided by our headquarters in Islamabad.”
Nawaz Sharif had been Prime Minister of Pakistan for three times. But he is currently serving a seven-year term in jail for corruption charges.
