Finance ministers have carried briefcases of various colors to announce the Union Budget. But this time, Nirmala Sitharaman, thought of making the changes not in the budget itself, but in the carry bag. She discarded the age-old briefcase. And undoubtedly, many heads turned to have a look at the most massive change in the Union Budget. The new carrier is a traditional “bahi khata” that was used by ‘munims’ in old times. So basically, the budget was wrapped in a red cloth and the whole system wrapped in a red and yellow thread. Moreover, it proudly bore the National Emblem.
Sitharaman goes against or towards tradition in introducing Union Budget?
In fact, Sitharaman proudly introduced the “bahi khata” to the media, “It is in Indian tradition. It symbolizes our departure from the slavery of western thought. It is not a budget but a ‘bahi khata‘(ledger)”
Apparently, not all agreed to this change. Most of the people said it was a publicity stunt to sway the attention from the failure of the Union Budget.
But according to PM Narendra Modi, this Union Budget is nothing short of a revolution for the Indian economy.
Well, to some extent he may be right. The fact that the Union Budget has increased the limit for tax less income does come as a relief for the common man. Moreover, it also offers 1.5 Lakh additional income tax rebate if one decides to purchase electrical vehicles. The budget also lures the NRIs as it is offers Aadhar card for them.
