Will Nina and Ian reprise their on-screen love story for a season 9 of ‘The Vampire Diaries’?
For some people, working with an ex might be difficult, but Ian and Nina are not one of them. Even today, both actors remain friends. According to various rumours, the two might be back on ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ Season 9. Let’s find out how true these rumours are in reality.

Those who are not aware, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder who played the role of Elena/Katherine and Damon Salvatore on-screen dated in real life too. The two met each other on the sets of ‘The Vampire Diaries’. Sadly, after three years, the two ended their relationship in 2013. Despite their breakup, the two shared incredible on-screen chemistry as their characters on ‘The Vampire Diaries’. Despite leaving the supernatural teen drama series in 2015, Nina Dobrev managed to stay close friends with all her co-stars, including Ian Somerhalder. After their breakup, Somerhalder started dating Nikki Reed in 2014. They both ended up getting married and had a baby together too.
During an appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’, Nina was asked if she thought her friendship with Somerhalder and Reed was weird. To which she said:
“I do not think that is weird at all. I think that is great. I think, ‘Why can’t everyone be friends?’ I think that they have a beautiful baby, and they are happy and so am I, and what is bad about that? I do not see any problem with that.”

Much before ‘The Vampire Diaries’ decided to go off the air, Nina decided to leave the show after its season six. After her stint as a human turned vampire turned human again, Dobrev starred in numerous movies such as 2017 sequel film ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’ alongside Vin Diesel, and ‘Run This Town‘. She was also seen in the 2017 remake of the movie ‘Flatliners’. In January 2019, Nina played the role of Clem on the new CBS sitcom ‘Fam’. Sadly, the show was cancelled just after one season. Despite the cancellation, Dobrev still ended up winning the Teen Choice Award for Best TV Actress in a comedy.
Paul Weasely who played the role of Elena’s first vampire lover, Stefan Salvatore, has been involved with various projects such as ‘Robot Chicken’, ‘Medal of Honor’, and the psychological thriller series ‘Tell Me a Story‘. Weasley is not just known for his acting role. He has often directed shows too. The popular actor directed a few episodes of ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘Legacies‘, ‘Shadowhunters‘, and the rebooted sci-fi series ‘Roswell, New Mexico’.
After his role on ‘The Vampire Diaries’, Ian Somerhalder played the lead in the 2019 Netflix zombie series ‘V-Wars‘, which he also produced. He later appeared on ‘Good Mythical Morning’ and ‘Time Framed‘ too.
Kat Graham, who played Bonnie Bennett on ‘The Vampire Diaries’, has been seen in numerous projects too. It includes ‘All Eyez on Me’, ‘How It Ends’, and the Holiday Calendar’.
Steven R McQueen, who played Elena’s brother, Jeremy Gilbert, was later seen on ‘Chicago P.D.’ and ‘Chicago Fire’. He was also seen in the anthology series ‘Medal of Honor‘ alongside Paul Weasely. Recently, he reprised his role of Jeremy Gilbert on the spin-off series, ‘Legacies’.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 9
‘The Vampire Diaries’ ended its successful run at the end of season 8. Since then, fans have been waiting for it to be brought back for a season 9. Many rumours suggest that the supernatural teen drama series would be back around March 2021. However, there has been no official confirmation from the cast or creator, Julie Plec. Though in an interview, Ian Somerhalder did confess that he would not come back for a season 9 of ‘The Vampire Diaries’. He did mention that he would like to direct an episode of the spin-off series ‘Legacies’.
