After his last mission building the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nick Fury will be coming back to Captain Marvel 2. After all, he has been an important part of Carol Danvers’ story!
Nick Fury is an indispensable part of Captain Marvel’s story with or without the Avengers. The character disappeared from the silver screen after ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ in 2016 and re-appeared only with ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ in 2018.
After this, his presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe became a permanent one as he starred in all the three Marvel movies of 2019. Now he is here to stay as he is reportedly coming back for Captain Marvel 2!

The whereabouts of Nick Fury in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, Earth 616
Nick Fury was last spotted on MCU’s Earth 616 in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’. At first, it seemed he was helping Peter Parker become more than just a ‘friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man’ and take charge of the Avengers after Tony Stark’s death.
But later, we realise that it was just a Skrull (Talos) disguised as Nick Fury. Meanwhile, the post-credits scene revealed that the real Nick Fury is in deep outer space. Nick Fury is surrounded by Skrulls on the spaceship in which he seems to be running a concealed mission with the alien race.
According to We Got This Covered, this scene is, in fact, a teaser for Nick Fury’s role in Captain Marvel 2. The super spy has been a close part of Brie Larson’s character Captain Marvel’s individual story.
In fact, we see him help Carol Danvers find her way and fight the Kree in the 2019 movie Captain Marvel. Not only this, but we also got to see how he lost his eye and ended up as his iconic one-eyed self. It is more than evident that Nick Fury will be returning to Captain Marvel 2 even if it is for a cameo.
Nick Fury is running a secret organisation for creating a Captain Marvel 2 storyline
Or maybe he is planning to recruit new Avengers for Avengers 5? We will know only when he decides to let us know, won’t we? As of now, Samuel L Jackson’s post-credits scene in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ has created a frenzy among fans. Ever since the movie’s release, fans have been hung-over from the cliffhanger.
Nick Fury had been secretly running S.H.E.I.L.D. until it came to an end. And now, fans are speculating that the ‘secret mission’ in the post-credits scene could be the MCU’s version of comics’ S.W.O.R.D.
In the Marvel comics, S.W.O.R.D. is the cosmic counterpart of S.H.E.I.L.D. Although Marvel has not yet confirmed this, the spaceship looks a lot like S.W.O.R.D. base, ‘Peak’.
Until 2019, Marvel had been struggling to involve this unit of S.H.E.I.L.D. in the MCU due to rights issues with 21st Century Fox. But now after the Disney Fox merger, the doors to various possibilities have opened up. Nick Fury would be coming to Captain Marvel 2 but that’s not all.
Captain Marvel is Evil And Nick is overwhelmed with Fury!
A recent popular rumour claimed that Brie Larson’s character will turn evil for Avengers 5. This fits like a glove with what Nick Fury’s character (who is actually Talos) says in a conversation with Spider-Man.
When Peter Parker tries to convince Nick Fury (Talos) to bring in some other Avenger to take the lead in defeating Far From Home’s apparent villain, he moves on to suggest Captain Marvel’s name. This is the reaction he gets from Nick Fury (Talos) — “Don’t invoke her name”. (Those are some pretty hard words!). Is it possible that the rumour is actually true and Captain Marvel has gone rogue after the events of Avengers: Endgame? Will Marvel Studios make Carol Danvers evil even before Avengers 5? It would surely make for an interesting plot of Captain Marvel 2, don’t you think?
Will Nick Fury be in Captain Marvel 2? Is the ‘Far From Home’ post-credits scene a reminiscent of the counterterrorism agency, S.W.O.R.D.? Share your views with us in the comments section below.
