Marvel fans are quarantined due to coronavirus. Now that they have all the time in the world to discuss superheroes, they have found the perfect discussion— Which is the worst MCU movie out of the 23?
Marvel fans are quarantined at their homes and discussing which is the worst MCU movie ever. Surely, people have ample time at their hands now and the discussion regarding ‘the worst out of 23 MCU movies’ is a longgg one. Currently, no conclusion has been reached. But netizens have shortened the list to two movies (with some clear disagreements) that are the finalists— Iron Man 3 and Thor 2. But we believe that the fans have forgotten yet another movie that deserves to take home the title.
Highlights:
- Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel grossed $1.1 billion at the box office
- Captain Marvel is one of the most hated movies among the 23 in MCU
- Which movie, do you think, is the worst MCU movie to date?
Coronavirus has led Marvel fans onto a serious discussion. And they have narrowed down the answers to two. Do you think Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 (The Dark World) are the worst MCU movies out of the 26 movies released to date?
Bad, Worse, Worst
Undoubtedly, there are many answers. In 2008, there was only one Iron Man project as a scale of measurement of a good Marvel superhero movie. But as the Marvel Cinematic Universe started to expand, so did the expectations of fans. Among others, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Strange, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain Marvel were massive failures despite the advanced technology and powerfully sewn storylines.
Something (or the other) just did not fit right in these movies. As an example, the Age of Ultron is usually compared to the other Avengers movies thus revealing a clear lack of on-screen management of a huge cast. Similarly, while Iron Man 3 was a good movie, but it failed to be a good Marvel movie due to the lack of Iron Man in it.
But a shocking (yet true) entry in the list of worst Marvel movies is Captain Marvel. How can a movie that grossed $1 billion at the box office be the worst?

Captain Marvel is the worst Marvel movie
Come 2019, Marvel fans were still hanging to the cliffhanger that ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ had given to the audience as a sweet poison. The expectations of fans were at an all-time high. And when Avengers: Endgame came, these expectations fired up even farther.
Fans started to assume that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has nailed the art of film-making, cliffhangers, and climaxes. So, they assumed that the case will be the same (in fact, better) for Captain Marvel that was released after a few more months in 2019.
The reason which made Captain Marvel the worst movie of the MCU was the expectations that it did not meet. To be fair, they were just too high. The burden to meet those expectations was even higher. As a first female solo superhero movie, the fans were psyched multi-folds. Ever since Black Widow was introduced in Iron Man 2, fans had been waiting and expecting for a female superhero movie.

On top of all that, fans were getting introduced to a new and extremely powerful character that was going to shape the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That is a lot of burdens that a single movie project could have carried with it. And Captain Marvel did not struggle enough to live up to any of these expectations.
At the end of the day, Captain Marvel proved to be the worst Marvel movie and yet grossed a whopping $1 billion from failed expectations. The movie was a little heavy-headed and failed to live up to the hype that Kevin Feige had created about Brie Larson and Captain Marvel.
