Monica Lewinsky as the producer
Ryan Murphy met Lewinsky at a party.
“I told her, nobody should tell your story. It should only be you. It’s kind of gross if they do. If you want to produce it with me, I would love it. But you should be the producer and you should make all the goddamn money”,
He told The Hollywood Reporter. His not so formal meeting with her turned out to be a success. Monica Lewinsky is producing the third instalment of Murphy-produced ‘American Crime Story’. In a letter to “Vanity Fair”, Lewinsky wrote:
Monica Lewinsky is producing the third instalment of Murphy-produced American Crime Story.
“For decades, people have been co-opting and telling my part of the story. In fact, it wasn’t until the past few years that I’ve been able to fully reclaim my narrative; almost twenty years later.” She further added, “I was hesitant and truthfully more than a little scared to sign on. But after a lengthy dinner meeting with Ryan, I came to understand even more clearly how dedicated he is to giving a voice to the marginalized in all of his brilliant work. I’m privileged to work with him and the other talented people on the team. I’m privileged to have this opportunity”.

‘American Crime Story: Impeachment’ will be starring Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky, Clive Owen as Bill Clinton, and Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp whose recordings led to revelations in the scandal.
Monica’s side of the story
In addition to Lewinsky as executive producer, Murphy is elated to finally have her tell her side of the story. “I’m very, very excited to have Monica Lewinsky’s version of what happened to be put out there in the world. I think that she’s earned the right to be able to tell her story of how she wants to tell it”, Murphy said. “I think her version of what happened, and the facts will be very startling to people, and it’s also important.”
Murphy further equated Beanie Feldstein’s role as Monica Lewinsky to Sarah Paulson’s role as Marcia Clark in ‘The People v. O. J. Simpson’.
“You forget how vilified and misunderstood Marcia Clark was. I feel the same way about Monica, that she’s not been treated fairly. She is a cultural figure who literally deserves her day in court and in this show she will get it”, Murphy explained.
COVID-19
Earlier this year, Ryan Murphy had declared that the shooting of the series would begin in late April, but that was scrapped due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The show was slated to air in September 2020 which had caused a stir because of its proximity to the presidential election. It isn’t clear till now when the series will be released. However, in an interview, Sarah Paulson revealed that the shooting of ‘American Crime Story: Impeachment’ will start sometime in October.

Overlooked dimensions to be explored on ‘American Crime Story: Impeachment’
Last year in August, chairman of the FX Networks and FX Productions, John Landgraf said, “Impeachment: American Crime Story will explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that ended up casting a long shadow over the Clinton Presidency”.
While the former two seasons of ‘American Crime Story’ were huge successes, fans of the series will be more than thrilled to learn about the advancements of the impeachment through Lewinsky’s eyes. Are you looking forward to the trilogy? Let us know your thoughts below!
