Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi put on his jogging shoes and went plogging on the second day of the Modi-Xi summit in Tamil Nadu. His early morning start with the Swedish concept puts forward proof that he is concerned with the cleanliness and hygiene of the country.
To kick start his second day in Chennai, PM Modi went plogging at Mamallapuram beach. If you are not aware of the word, it is an act of picking up litter while jogging.
A Swedish concept, plogging was the child of environmental concerns over rising pollution.
The word is basically a combination of the words jogging and ‘plocka up’ (pick up). If you want to know more about the activity, read here.
Swachh Bharat meets Fit India
PM Modi combined two of his most important missions (that are also the need of the hour) and went plogging on the Chennai beach. Not only this, but he also shared pictures from the beautiful beach on his Twitter handle with an apt caption. “Refreshing walk and exercises in Mamallapuram, along the scenic coast.”
This was later accompanied by a short clip in which PM Modi can be seen in the act of plogging. It was captioned, “Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes. Also handed over my ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, who is a part of the hotel staff. Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy! Let us also ensure we remain fit and healthy.”
Many people lauded the Prime Minister for promoting the concept of plogging. Among these was Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. He tweeted, “When the Prime Minister leads from the front, the whole nation moves along!
#Plogging is the best way to improve overall fitness and cleanliness together. #PloggingRun burns 15% to 30% more calories than traditional jogging while waste collection becomes a glamorous lifestyle!”
Praises poured all over social media for PM Modi who chose to lead by example when it came to promoting plogging.
It was surely the most perfect morning walk one could get. Don’t you agree?
