How grim are the chances for season 12?
Remember, ‘Modern Family’ was supposed to end after season 10. Season 11 was not planned and came as a happy surprise for fans. Who knows, history might repeat itself. At least, that is what we hope and we’re sure the fans agree.
Though from showmakers to cast, everyone has decided on singing the swan song with season 11, some unfinished storyline might still trigger a possible reboot for ‘Modern Family’ Season 12. Yes, you can certainly bask in hope.
But the reality, for now, is that the show has decided to pull the curtains down with ‘Modern Family’ Season 11, and the chances of its revival for season 12 is too little, if not entirely grim.
Sophia Vergara will not find this kind of family ever again. Listen to the emotional farewell video posted by the ‘Modern Family’ tribe.
How “modern” is ABC’s ‘Modern Family’?
‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ writer Ali Waller asked her Twitter followers “If Modern Family is so ‘modern’ then why don’t any of the women have jobs?” ‘Modern Family’ is constantly criticized for the regressive depiction of women. Stay-at-home mothers do not make for a ‘Modern Family’.
In the very first episode, a CNET staffer pointed out, “The wife and daughter are unable to learn how to use the remote and must be taught by the father, while the son is ‘good with electronics’, even though he is thought of as the stupidest member of the family”. Looks like, they weren’t even modern enough if they ended up projecting gen-x in the same light.
‘Modern Family’ was never ever modern. Though it brought a bunch of contemporary issues to its table, it always ended with stereotyping dysfunctional family.
Initially sweeping Emmys and Golden Globe, the reception started getting mixed as the show progressed, like all decade-long comedies. Though the show has lost its initial charm in critic ratings and viewership, the cast and crew have nothing to lose. They can part with pride in giving us good laughter time for 10 long years. ‘Modern Family’ is the longest-running TV series on ABC and that’s an achievement in itself.
