Boycott ‘Mirzapur Season 2’ trends on Twitter – but why?
It’s rather surprising that the fans and netizens who were keenly waiting for the trailer of ‘Mirzapur Season 2’ now want to boycott it. Turns out, the entire rage against ‘Mirzapur’ is a result of Ali Fazal’s involvement in the last year’s violent anti-CAA protest in Delhi that later culminated into terrifying and bloody anti-Hindu riots in northern Delhi.

Ali Fazal plays one of the lead characters Guddu Pandit in ‘Mirzapur’, and as the trailer to Season 2 reveals, Guddu is up for some real screen presence. Ali Fazal’s presence in the anti-CAA rallies and protests in Delhi last year was noted several times. The actor even tweeted several times regarding the same. One of the specific tweets (now deleted), which justified the ‘protests’ as ‘fun’, provoked rage among the fans and citizens.
The riots claimed the lives of several citizens and many on-duty policemen. A major area of the Northern Delhi was destroyed, and the unrest prevailed for several days.
Here are some of the tweets of netizens asking for ‘Mirzapur Season 2’ Boycott.
Here’s what Ali Fazal has to say on the trend to boycott Season 2 of Mirzapur.
Ali Fazal reacts to the Boycott trend.
Ali Fazal has been a part of various Bollywood movies including 3 Idiots, Fukrey, Happy Bhag Jayegi etcetera. However, the actor earned major recognition after appearing in several Hollywood movies like ‘Furious 7’ and ‘For Here Or To Go?’. He also starred as a lead in a British – American film ‘Victoria & Abdul’.
While reacting to the boycott ‘Mirzapur Season 2’ trend on Twitter, the actor said to Mid Day:
“I feel bad when people talk about boycotting the show because so many people are involved in making it. Sometimes, I have to weigh my options and take a step back for the larger good of others; I don’t want them to bear the brunt of my actions. That said, I will not stop raising my voice. I am an artist in a free world, I am supposed to raise questions. The environment of hate needs to be tackled with peace. We are the country that won its freedom through peace, after all.”
Another Interview:
In another interview, while talking to Times Now Digital, Fazal stated how wrong it is to give so much importance to trends on one of the apps and let them decide the fate of something.
He said: “We have to decide what is the bar we are setting. Are we at the mercy of a trend? No! I don’t look at art in that way. Are we at the mercy of one app that decides who will watch our show and who will not?
“No, I think this has really gone down. I mean if you are really talking about trends, I never saw any trends related to farmers – there have been protests everywhere across our country. But I wouldn’t say that it’s not an important story, it’s the most important story. Pandemic suddenly has become the last story on everybody’s mind. It’s not trending anymore but it’s still supposed to be the biggest problem that we are facing. I hope the people rise above that.”
Creators proceed with Season 3 of ‘Mirzapur’.
‘Mirzapur Season 2’, created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna, is all set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 23 October 2020. ‘Mirzapur’ stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Divyendu Sharma, Isha Talwar, and others.
While on Twitter the boycott trend against ‘Mirzapur Season 2’ is trending, one of the earlier media reports suggests that Season 3 of the show is already in the works. If Season 3 is being planned for one of the most loved Indian web-show, we wonder in what direction the Season 2 of the show takes the story.
