‘Jeopardy!’ fans unhappy with Bialik?
As fans of the game show are aware, Mayim was a temporary guest host on ‘Jeopardy!’. After her episodes aired from late May to mid-June, she officially got announced as the host of the primetime special. Following the abrupt departure of former executive producer Mike Richards, ‘Jeopardy!’ legend Ken Jennings was named her replacement. Throughout Season 38, Mayim and Ken have been co-hosting the show, while a new permanent host is yet to get announced.
Kennings and Bialik will host the shows until July 2022, when a new permanent host will get announced. Bialik has not been shy about expressing her desire to stay with the show.
For nearly a year, Mayim Bialik has hosted episodes of ‘Jeopardy!’ In an interview with Newsweek, she admitted that, while it has been “unbelievable”, she couldn’t have predicted how vocal the ‘Jeopardy!’ fanbase would be online.
Since she began hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ in May 2021, Bialik has let fans know she has listened to their feedback, most recently regarding her use of the term “single-Jeopardy”.
“I have very publicly thrown my hat into that ring. I would like to say as an actor and as a potential ‘Jeopardy!’ host, we live season to season. So what I know is where I am until May 6 (the date when she shoots the last episode of this season of ‘Jeopardy!’)”.
According to the ‘Big Bang Theory’ actor, it has been incredible. This opportunity comes at an incredible time in her life and career. She went on to say that she had no idea the depth of, in particular, the social media presence of people who are so devoted to ‘Jeopardy!’
Will Mayim Bialik get cancelled as ‘Jeopardy!’ host
Bialik says she’s been surprised by the number of people who watch the show, which she discovered on the set of her new film ‘As They Made Us’. Bialik began by discussing the public’s interest in who will be the game show’s new host.
Bialik stated that losing Alex Trebek is a huge loss for the larger community but also the ‘Jeopardy!’ fans. It’s a huge setback. And the media landscape has changed dramatically. They have complete access to people, and as she has seen, you can have people spread false information on Twitter, and it can spread exponentially.
She felt ‘Jeopardy!’ was a perfect example of everything that can go wrong with social media and how social media handles information that most people would know very little about.
Recently, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ actor attended the 27th Critics’ Choice Awards. There she opened up about her future on ‘Jeopardy!’ Mayim revealed to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet that her time on the quiz show was winding down and that if it were up to her, she would continue to stand at the podium. According to the ‘Call Me Kat‘ star, she will continue to record new episodes until the spring of this year. But Mayim had no idea what would happen after that.
She got asked if the audience would get to see her permanently host? To which she replied:
“I would love that. I like to say, [I have] lived season to season since [I was] about 13 years old. So, what I know is I am hosting until May 6, and beyond that, hopefully, I will know more before May 6”.
It is not the first time Mayim has expressed interest in becoming ‘Jeopardy!’s’ permanent host. When the current season premiered in September, the neuroscientist openly expressed her gratitude in an interview with Glamour. Mayim acknowledged that she has a busy schedule with her Fox sitcom, ‘Call Me Kat’, and her mental health podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, but she still wishes to be a part of ‘Jeopardy!’
