While the world waits for Keanu Reeves to return as Neo in ‘Matrix 4’ – Neil Patrick’s revelation scares the fans of the failure of the destined blockbuster.
It’s been over two decades since the Wachowskis’ ‘The Matrix’ became a phenomenon in 1999, a movie that re-wrote the capabilities of cinema and storytelling. ‘The Matrix’ was hailed for “spectacular action” and “groundbreaking special effects” by critics. ‘The Matrix’ was followed by two sequels in 2003, ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘The Matrix Revolutions’. Both of them, if not necessarily equally loved by the audience and critics, definitely scaled up the blockbuster spirit of the original. Now, after almost two decades, fans are ready for the same experience with ‘The Matrix 4’ set to release in December 2021. However, ‘The Matrix 4’ latest revelation by actor Neil Patrick Harris has shot up the anxiety of fans amid concerns of the upcoming movie failing to live up to the expectations.

It didn’t feel like a blockbuster – Neil Patrick’s revelation scares fans of ‘The Matrix 4’
At the time ‘The Matrix’ was released, it was gigantic in its vision, scale, and experience. Years went on but ‘The Matrix’ effect didn’t fade. In one of the recent interviews, James Cameron called ‘The Matrix’ “one of the most profoundly fresh science fiction films ever made”. Christopher Nolan described it as “an incredibly palpable mainstream phenomenon that made people think, ‘Hey, what if this isn’t real?'”.
So, it’s totally normal that the hype for the 4th edition in the trilogy is through the skies. Fans are expecting ‘The Matrix 4’ to be bigger in scale, to be better in terms of concept, and to be 4-times what the original Matrix was. In such a scenario, even the greatest of production falls short of the expectations.
Surprisingly, Neil Patrick Harris, who is a new addition to the original cast of the trilogy, has already hinted at the possibilities of ‘The Matrix 4’ falling short of the fans’ expectations.
In one of his recent talks, he stated that filming of ‘The Matrix 4’ “didn’t feel large”.
What it could mean? Does it mean ‘The Matrix 4’ is going to compromise on the scale?
Neil Patrick’s experience of filming ‘The Matrix 4’
Neil Patrick Harris stars alongside Keanu Reeves, Priyanka Chopra, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lambert Wilson, and Daniel Bernhardt in Warner Brothers upcoming untitled sequel of the Matrix trilogy.
Is Neil Patrick lying about his shooting experience of ‘Matrix 4’? Or the makers are lying about the sheer scale and size of the movie?

The filming of the movie, delayed by the pandemic in 2020, has reportedly finished. And the actor has shared his experience of filming the movie with the director Lana Wachowski.
As per Neil Patrick, the filming of Matrix 4 felt very intimate, opposite to how a blockbuster should feel.
He revealed in this week’s episode of the Just for Variety podcast:
“It didn’t feel large because it felt like she was in her sweet spot, which was filming on the fly, filming using natural light. Sometimes you’d sit around for an hour waiting for the clouds to clear, and then you’d quickly film. You’d film pages at a time in 30 minutes and then be done. You would think that a giant movie would be 100% storyboarded, animatics, and we’d be checking off shots. I think she lived that before three times over. And I would suspect that she wants to do things her own way now. It wasn’t often that you felt that you were doing something gigantic because she made it feel very intimate.”
Is ‘Matrix 4’ going to be a failure for compromising with its scale?
Absolutely not. Though we too wonder how a huge scale movie can possibly not look huge with its filming preparations, production design, crew, and cast.
But what Neil Patrick said about ‘The Matrix 4’ was received partially by the fans and then misinterpreted. What Neil meant was probably about how calm and composed Lana must have been on the sets of such a huge movie after her years of experience.
To note, the Matrix trilogy is the brainchild of the Wachowskis. The 4th movie must have been in their heads for over a decade now.
It’s surprising to hear that ‘The Matrix 4’ shoot felt intimate to Neil, considering the movie has got to be full of action and thrill. However, Neil may be cast for a role that required less to no involvement in all the action and crazy stuff destined to be in ‘Matrix 4’.
What do you think? Is Neil Patrick trying to trick the fans by lying about ‘The Matrix 4’ shoot not feeling large enough? Or the 4th instalment in the Matrix trilogy is actually playing with our expectations. Comment your thoughts down below.
