With the MCU becoming more and more diverse, many fans are wondering who the first openly gay character of the Marvel Universe is going to be.
Avengers: Endgame did take a step further in better representation, with Joe Russo’s cameo seeing him play the franchise’s first openly gay character and while that is a step towards the right direction, it is simply not enough.
Many are hoping and wondering if Carol Danvers our very own Captain Marvel will be the first openly gay character and here’s why.

Captain Marvel And Her Sexuality
Most of these speculations have stemmed from the lack of acknowledgement that was given to Carol Danvers sexuality in the first movie. Of course, we understand that Captain Marvel had a bigger task on her mind like discovering who she was but even an inclination wasn’t provided to us in any form of hint, clue or remark.
Another reason Marvel fans seem to be hopping on this idea is her close friendship with her best friend Maria Rambeau in the movie. Fans say that Rambeau never remarried after Danvers went M.I.A and their reunion could potentially spark an old romance which hasn’t been explained before.
Although, Tessa Thompson’s character Valkyrie is another strong contender for a potential romantic relationship with Captain Marvel too. Thompson has previously revealed that her Asgardian warrior was bi and Thompson’s and Brie Larson’s characters artwork all over the internet representing them together would very much prove so.

The pair who got together at Comic-Con said they would love to see their characters on the screen and a potential romance would be something they would love to get on board with which further fuelled the rumours to the theory. (This is a pairing we would die for no questions asked)
Brie Larson Is In On The Plan
As an actor and human being, Larson has been supporting Equality for Women in and out of Industry and LGBTQ+ rights extremely vocally. Moreover, the actress said she is thrilled to be a part of the Marvel Studios at a time where it is becoming more inclusive and diverse.
She added saying that she saw no reason why certain kinds of people with varying sexualities couldn’t be superheroes. If that is not a hint towards our next female fatale strong gay superhero, I don’t know what is.
Also, seeing as Carol will develop in more ways than one in the future Captain Marvel Part 2 Movie with her being very well aware of herself and origin, she might just have some time to focus on her love life after all.
When Will We See Captain Marvel Next?
The mystery behind Carol Danvers sexuality isn’t going to be solved anytime soon either. The second part slated for a release in Phase Four is not expected to hit the big screen any time before 2022.
So, until then speculate and read and discuss Marvel fans because that’s all we got. That and of course a number of other movies from the MCU like Black Widow, Black Panther, Guardians Of The Galaxy lined up.
Will Captain Marvel truly pave a way for more diverse and inclusive Marvel studios by being the first fully gay superhero? The chances are high but only time will tell.
