What Marvel did with “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” was something no cinema lover ever experienced on screen. It was the result of all the setup that marvel did throughout Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3 of MCU, consisting of as many as 22 movies. A lot happened in MCU until the conclusion of phase 3 with Endgame. We met Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spiderman, Dr Strange, etc. they all gradually became part of one side to face one Mad Titan, Thanos, in Infinity War and Endgame.
This entire journey from first Iron Man to Avengers Endgame was called “The Infinity Saga”. But, with the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, the question of what’s next is stamped on Marvel. How Marvel will handle the next Endgame-level event in MCU within the next 10 years?
How will Marvel create the next Endgame-level event in MCU – within 10 years?
Marvel has already begun racing in Phase 4 of MCU. With superheroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Vision, etc. permanently out of the scene, it’s almost like starting from the scratch for Marvel. However, after the immense success of all the movies till Phase 3, and the ground-breaking response and success of Infinity Saga, especially Infinity War and Endgame, nothing is holding Marvel back from experimenting and putting all the resources in its Phase 4. Everything aside, Marvel has already announced a chunk of projects for MCU Phase 4, and we can predict how it’s going to approach the next Endgame-level event in MCU, within 10 years.
Continuing with some established characters from Phase 3
Marvel hasn’t given up on all the established characters from its previous phases. Many of them, the fan favourites and integral part of Infinity Saga, will continue to drive the story forward in Phase 4 as well. Characters like Thor, Hulk, Wanda, Spiderman, and even Captain Marvel, will help Marvel in keeping the pace while still being able to introduce all the new required storylines and superheroes in the universe. Also, the presence of old and admired characters will ensure the box of success for MCU phase 4 till a certain extent, helping Marvel in preparing for next Endgame-level event in MCU within 10 years.
Introduction of New Superheroes and Storylines in Phase 4
As the Phase 4 in MCU is supposed to start a new storyline in after Infinity Saga, Marvel have planned on introducing many new characters and worlds. Disney’s merger with Fox will also help Marvel in introducing keenly awaited superheroes like Wolverine, Deadpool, X-men, etc. in MCU. It’ll expand the universe of MCU further to indefinite proportions compared to what it was till Endgame. Marvel has already announced the introduction of The Eternals, New Mutants, and X-men, in MCU, and many of these projects are under production. Though there is no announcement regarding any conclusive chapters like Endgame for the next phase, the pace Marvel is taking with MCU suggests that we can expect something bigger than Endgame before 2030.
Foreshadowing the new main Villain after the departure of Thanos in Endgame.
Everything from the legacy of old characters, to the introduction of new superheroes, seems pretty much confirmed and in production for MCU phase 4. What remains uncertain is the villain in MCU Phase 4. What Thanos brought to the Infinity Saga in MCU has raised the bar to the whole cosmic level.
However, after Thanos departed from the MCU in Endgame, the next choice for MCU’s phase 4 baddie has remained unannounced and unpredictable. With so many storylines like X-men, Eternals, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc. merging in MCU, it’s hard to guess which storyline Marvel will refer to for the main villain in the next Endgame-like event in MCU withing 10 years. There are some villains like Galactus, Doctor Doom, Red Skull, etc. who can replace Thanos.
Though no one can be certain of what Marvel, Disney and Kevin Feige have in their minds for MCU phase 4, the pace and the scale of Marvel Cinematic Universe at the mere beginning of Phase 4 tells us that we are surely going to experience a next Endgame-level, or bigger, event in MCU withing 10 years.
