After bagging the title of the highest-grossing movie on the planet, Avengers Endgame is leaving no stone unturned in bringing home an Oscar. In fact, they have gone so far in their pursuit that the movie’s poster no longer portrays it is a superhero flick!
Avengers Endgame is bringing home an Oscar and full stop. The Marvel Cinematic movies which started wooing the audience in 2008, bagged more than just appreciation. Renowned director Martin Scorsese and Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston refused to classify the superhero movies as ‘cinema’.
Despite the laudable performances and visual effects, the Marvel movies became vulnerable to the ‘not-cinema’ tag.
Getting ‘Avengers: Endgame’ an Oscar
So, to dampen all the negativity surrounding the Oscar hopes of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, the Oscar screener of the movie was turned into an unrecognisable one. Robert Downey Jr looks very serious and not at all a superhero. Subsequently, the Oscar screener went viral over Twitter.
Iron Man looked just like a regular man.
A very (veryyy) humble Tony Stark who has been washed out of colours looks serious and lost in his thoughts. This scene which featured in the superhero movie appears to be one from a serious drama when put out of context. We believe that was the exact look the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ makers were trying to achieve to win an Oscar.
A movie reporter, Matt Jacobs, pointed this out on Twitter. “The FYC screener for Avengers: Endgame is working very hard to make this movie seem serious.”
Another critic, Tasha Robinson too pointed it out. “The awards screener cover for AVENGERS: ENDGAME is a whole capital-M mood. I dig this film a lot, and it’s way grimmer. and more thoughtful than I was expecting, but this still looks like the second coming of Steve McQueen’s HUNGER.”
But the question remains. Will Avengers Endgame win an Oscar? Well, we do hope the superheroes get an unbiased judgment. What about you? Share your views with us.
