A social media campaign has recently emerged to cast Stewart as the DC villain opposite her ‘Twilight’ co-star and ex-boyfriend Pattinson, who will play the title character in Matt Reeves’ upcoming film ‘The Batman’. But is she up to the idea of taking the role? Keep reading to find out.
If you’ve seen even a smidgeon of the buzz surrounding Kristen Stewart’s upcoming Princess Diana biopic ‘Spencer’, you’ll know the ‘Twilight’ star can pull off a mean on-screen meltdown. Few fictional characters have as many mental breakdowns as the villains of Batman. The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman, Bane, Scarecrow, Two-Face, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and—oh—that guy who wears a pig mask and turns humans into mind-controlled robots are among the Caped Crusader’s rogue gallery. They’re a charismatic bunch all around!

With Stewart’s ‘Twilight’ co-star and ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson playing the Dark Knight in the new ‘Batman’ reboot, fans have been clamouring for Stewart to join the cast, preferably as a counter-role to Joaquin Phoenix‘s ‘Joker’.

Kristen Stewart was in a relationship with Pattinson for a few years, and the two impressed the audience with their flawless chemistry in ‘Twilight’. The two were romantically linked following the 2008 release of the first film and dated on and off until 2013.

However, when asked by Variety, the 31-year-old actress, turned down the idea of playing Joker opposite Pattinson’s Batman politely, and said that she loves the energy behind it, but “it’s really been done so well and feels like, maybe, they don’t traipse over, but loved that gusto”. She added, “Let’s figure something else out, I’m down to play a freaky and scary person”.
While several performers, including Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, and Joaquin Phoenix, have won Academy Awards for their performances in the role, Stewart stated that she is “not the most stoked I’ve ever been”and suggested trying something new. Though the American actress is not sure about joining Pattinson in the film, she has already congratulated her ex for earning the role.
Not anytime soon
Kristen and Robert started dating in 2009 after meeting on the set of their vampire romance film franchise ‘Twilight’. While Kristen will not be playing the villainous failed clown anytime soon, she will play a softer, less “freaky, scary person” in the upcoming biopic ‘Spencer’, a historical drama that follows the late Diana, Princess of Wales’ Christmas holiday with the British royal family at Sandringham House in 1991, as she decides to leave her husband, Prince Charles.
Kristen plays the People’s Princess opposite Jack Farthing as Prince Charles in Pablo Larrain’s film, which has already gotten Kristen some award hype. Kristen revealed she “very irresponsibly” accepted to play the famous princess before reading the script, depending on her gut impression when speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
Her performance in the trailer has already been hailed as Oscar-worthy, and the biographical drama is due to hit theatres on November 5th.
Meanwhile ‘The Batman’, starring Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Paul Dano, recently debuted its major trailer at DC FanDome 2021, is set to hit theatres on March 4, 2022.
