The world’s most-loved movie star, Keanu Reeves took up the iconic role of Neo in his younger heydays, sporting a lean, clean face with trimmed and kempt hair, but 17 years later, we shall see a different look.
Keanu Reeves rendezvous with what’s real and what’s not started more than two decades ago when he reluctantly took the blue pill from Morpheus’ palm back in 1999. The movie was unprecedented and Keanu Reeves’ ravishing new look as Neo stayed fresh and crisp in our memories when he came in part two Matrix Reloaded and part 3 The Matrix Revolutions in the same year 2003.
Heads Up! A new look for Neo in Matrix 4 revealed
- Keanu Reeves and Matrix cast caught filming in San Francisco
- The look that Neo will sport in Matrix 4
- Why keeping the old look from The Matrix trilogy was a risky prospect
- Did Keanu Reeves refuse to sport the original Neo look?
- Why the new look for Keanu Reeves’ makes sense
Reeves was 36 when The Matrix was shot and 39 when part 2 and 3 came out. But in Matrix 4, the man playing Neo is 55. Now that changes a lot of things. First and foremost is Reeves’ looks. Gone are the days when we would see the man in the boy next door image. These days Reeves prefers a humbler hopeless romantic image. But how would that fit in with his all-envisioning character of Neo? Well, it seems Lana Wachowski knows exactly what to do.
Spotted filming in San Francisco
Keanu Reeves and the Matrix 4 team are busy shooting in San Francisco. While most things about the movie have been kept hush-hush, it was implausible to keep Reeves’ new look under wraps for Wachowski & Co. when all paparazzi do is flutter around in search of glimpses of the star. And so, new video and images have surfaced where Keanu Reeves is seen shooting for Matrix 4, walking calmly on the streets of San Francisco and riding pillion to Carrie Anne-Moss’ Trinity on a bike. Have a look:
It can be clearly seen that the Matrix team decided not to give Reeves a Neo-ish makeover and instead decided to carry on with the rugged, bearded look he has been sporting for quite a few years now. It is a little surprising though because we know for a fact that Reeves isn’t one of them stubborn celebs who refuse to obey the director’s word. Well, we know that he happily obliged for Bill And Ted Face The Music by shaving off his facial hair. That means the Matrix 4 team have a consensus here and decided to let the John Wick look remain for Neo too. But hold on, is that a wise decision? Can it backfire?
Why the new look for Keanu Reeves in Matrix 4 makes sense?
Well, to be honest, Matrix 4 turning out a hit doesn’t rely on many parameters. In fact, it was just one – Keanussance – the Keanu Reeves fandom. However, the footage makes us imagine that Wachowski has found another factor to add to the appeal of the fourth installment which is being filmed more than 16 years after the trilogy ended. So, Matrix is banking a little on John Wick fans to endorse Reeves’ look and come out in numbers for Matrix 4.

That does make sense. The Matrix cult has aged and entered their middle ages. Some may even be past it. Therefore, roping in the younger generation is essential to make Matrix 4 the biggest blockbuster of the 21st century. The millennials are much more familiar with John Wick the assassin than Neo the saviour.
Hence, the look should actually work when Matrix 4 comes to the silver screen. Fans love Keanu Reeves’ dead serious expressions behind the beard and parted longer hair. So that’s surely going to help the cause and make Neo a household name once again.
