Why did season 13 not happen?
‘The Big Bang Theory’ was, and still is, a massive success all around the world. Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki said that if not for Jim Parsons deciding to leave, the show would have had its 13th season.
Before the beginning of season 12, Chuck Lorre, one of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ creators, called the main cast for a meeting. The cast knew that CBS did not have any intentions to cancel ‘The Big Bang Theory’ at that moment, since its ratings were among the highest of CBS’ shows. The meeting was called to announce that Jim Parsons did not want to keep filming the sitcom and he would not be back for another season. The main cast had the choice to continue with the show, but they all decided, as a group, that it was impossible to keep the show exciting and interesting for the fans after losing its main character, so they decided to stop at season 12.
In an interview with “Variety”, almost 2 years later, Cuoco commented that she thought the meeting was called to talk about the 13th season. Cuoco said that she even talked about it beforehand with Johnny Galecki. She even said that both of them wanted to keep filming it. “Did we want to do it? And we really did.” Cuoco said that despite being emotional when remembering the end of ‘The Big Bang Theory’, it was important for her, and her castmates, to move on in their careers. Since the show ended, Cuoco was cast to do HBO Max’s ‘The Flight Attendant’ and was nominated for the Golden Globes.
Kaley and Johnny’s relationship after the breakup
Another question that intrigued the fans was how Kaley and Johnny kept working together after their breakup. Cuoco talked about the beginning and the end of their relationship in an interview she gave to Dax Shepard’s podcast ‘Armchair Expert’. She said, “We dated really early on for almost two years. When we did the pilot, I was crushing so hard on Galecki, but he had a girlfriend. We got together and just fell mad for each other for two years, but then we broke up. Luckily, Johnny and I came out of it so brilliantly and we’re closer today than we ever were”.
As she said, luckily for the fans their breakup did not interfere at all in the ‘The Big Bang Theory’ production. She also said that they are still friends to this day and each one of them followed their path in separate directions.
Does Jim Parsons regret that he did not stay in for ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 13? And what would have the show become if they kept doing it without him? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
