With the blockbuster ‘The Batman’, Robert Pattinson has made a grand entrance into the DC Universe. But has a recent confession made by Josh Brolin put his position in danger?
Robert Pattinson is the new DC Batman. While it is still not certain whether he will also be a part of the extended DC Universe, the success of ‘The Batman’ has opened several doors for him. Also, Ben Affleck’s uncertain future with the DCEU got everything mixed up. Amidst all the chaos comes Josh Brolin. Mostly known for his roles in the Marvel films, Josh Brolin had claimed that he was one of the top choices to play the DCEU Batman back when the casting for the role was on after ‘Man of Steel’. Following the success of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, DC got poised to launch its cinematic universe. It resulted in new castings for major roles. Henry Cavill played Superman, and Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the second film in the DCEU. Josh Brolin was recently seen reminiscing about almost becoming Batman in the DCEU.

Josh Brolin DCEU’s Batman
Josh Brolin has appeared in DC’s ‘rival’ studio Marvel, playing the main villain Thanos in the final two ‘Avengers’ films. It was a significant role, and Josh’s performance was regarded as exceptional. With such a successful track record in superhero films, it’s impossible to overlook Josh’s abilities as a bankable superhero movie star. However, when Ben got cast in the movie ‘Batman V Superman‘, negotiations with Josh to play Batman were in their early stages. Initially, Zack Snyder‘s casting decision got heavily criticised. On the other hand, Ben Affleck embraced the role with zeal, and despite the film’s failure to live up to expectations, Ben’s future with the DCEU was assured.

However, as of now, there has been no foreseeable future for Ben Affleck’s Batman. In such times, Josh Brolin’s confession comes across as an invitation for the DCEU to put Josh on the list of possible contenders if the role of Batman is again open for grab ever.
Josh Brolin’s almost Batman casting
Josh appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. He also admitted that Zack Snyder did not think Josh was a good fit for the role. The film was based on Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns’, which features an older and raspier Batman. The host indicated that Brolin would have been perfect for the role as the age was on his side.
However, previously, Brolin had made a comment that did not go too well with the DC fans. Following the failure of ‘Justice League‘, which resulted in the dismantling of the entire DCEU, Brolin stated that he was relieved that it (his casting for the role) did not occur.
In the forthcoming films, we are seeing more than one Batmans as the DCEU is trying to go the multiverse route. Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck are already appearing in the upcoming ‘The Flash’ movie. With DC stretching out the possibilities, it can be expected that Josh Brolin can become the new Batman.
