He said, “They did their jobs… 18 years later, you do yours”
Activist and comedian, Jon Stewart, spoke out for the 9/11 responders. He criticized the Congress for not doing their job properly when the 9/11 responders had done theirs well.
Why did Jon Stewart rebuke?
Congress failed to act timely and ensure that the September 11’s Victims Compensation Fund had adequate money. Moreover, in February, the officials that manage the fund which is worth $7.4 Billion went on to make the statement that it is “running out of money”. Furthermore, they intimidated that they would slash payouts in the future between 50-70%.
Many 9/11 responders are suffering from illnesses
The fund’s special master, Rupa Bhattacharyya said, “The plain fact is that we are expending the available funds more quickly than assumed, and there are many more claims than anticipated”
Consequently, Jon Stewart slammed the Congress for ‘showing disrespect’ to the 9/11 responders. “You should be ashamed of yourselves”, he said.
Furthermore, he portrayed his disapproval on Congress’ slow movement on the concerned bill. He said, “Why is this so damn hard and takes so damn long?” Meanwhile, a number of people are “sick and dying”.
