Amidst the panic and hysteria surrounding the world right now, Keanu Reeves wants you to know that he’s thinking about you. Reeves made sure that fans of the ‘John Wick’ franchise were made aware that the franchise is coming back for a fifth part.
‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ received green light shortly after the third part was released. Following that, recently it was also announced that not only is part 5 happening, but both part 4 and 5 will be shot back to back.
However, both the director and Reeves aren’t entirely on board with the idea of shooting the fourth and fifth part back to back.
‘John Wick’: Why the sudden expansion?
Even though the fourth one hasn’t even begun yet, Lionsgate has already started working on a fifth part of the franchise. The fourth and fifth part of the popular franchise will be shot together, back to back. Both the fifth and the fourth part are at an early stage right now.
The fourth part, set to release in 2022, is in the writing process right now. Fans should be (and are!) excited to know that a fifth part is even being considered. The first three parts of the series have enjoyed considerable success and given Keanu Reeves the much-deserved come back to the status of a superstar.
The first three ‘John Wick’ films star Reeves as an assassin, against whom even the worst kind of criminals and best-skilled hitmen don’t stand a chance. The series grossed a whopping $584 million at the box office.
Can You Finish These Iconic Keanu Reeves Movie Lines? (Quiz)
So, the reason to continue with the franchise is apparent. But why are Reeves and director Chad Stahleski not happy with the decision?
Hiccup before the fifth ‘John Wick’: Too soon for execution
Keanu Reeves might only be the lead actor in the hit action series, but he knows that without him the series is good for nothing. This is why he and director Chad Stahleski have shown their disdain towards shooting both the fourth and fifth part together.

According to both of them, who contribute heavily to the writing part of the movie, shooting them both back to back will not give the team enough time to develop the fifth part. The fourth part is still in the writing process, and by the time that is completed, the movie will go into production, leaving very little time for the fifth part to get the attention it deserves.
The reason for Lionsgate to commission back to back shooting for the two movies is that, to put it quite simply, Reeves is not getting any younger. The role requires immense physical activity and involves filming complex action sequences which Reeves prefers to do by himself.
All of these factors together have led to disagreements over this new arrangement. Fans, however, seem to be rather excited despite these issues.
So, what should the audience be looking forward to ‘John Wick’ Part 4 and 5?
‘John Wick’: The upcoming parts
‘John Wick’ is coming back for a fourth and fifth part because seeking revenge in three parts was just not enough. The movie, initially slated for a May 2021 release, has been postponed to May 27, 2022, due to the coronavirus lockdown.
While the plot details are under wrap for part 4, the ending of ‘Chapter 3- Parabellum’ provides some insight into what we can expect. After an intense fight to protect The Continental, Manager Winston shoots John in favour of High Table. John, however, isn’t killed by this and is taken to the Bowery King who promises John of revenge.
Continuing from there, the angry and revengeful John is where the fourth part could be heading, in which John and the Bowery King work together against both the High Table and The Continental.
Well, that sounds like something we can hardly wait for! ‘John Wick’ coming back darker and more hungry for revenge than ever before. Do you think shooting back to back is a smart option?
