Other opportunities that conflicted the show
Jim Parsons was handling multiple jobs while he was playing Sheldon Cooper on ‘The Big Bang Theory’. Somehow, he was able to fit in the shooting of ‘The Boys In the Band’ around the beginning of season 12. Still, there were many other opportunities for him.
Jim Parsons also spoke about his character Sheldon Cooper that weirdly has his own life. That was something he felt for many years, not just about his character, but about the show in general.
Jim Parsons recently appeared In the HFPA In Conversation podcast. He was there to promote his new Netflix film ‘The Boys in the Band‘. Parsons further spoke about the reason behind the ending of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ after season 12.
In the podcast, Parsons spoke about how he had been doing other things but there was something about the timing of it. He realized there were many other things he would have liked to do. Though not all of them were going to fit into the summer hiatus that all of them had from ‘The Big Bang Theory’. He knew that in order to keep exploring and journeying on that road of who he was, both as a person but as an actor specifically, he needed to claim more of his time back.
He added how he doesn’t mean it in a bad way because he loved every episode they did. But he didn’t get a jolt out of playing the part anymore.
Parsons acknowledged it was a wonderful job, but it was just a different situation in that way.
No one talked about a possible season 13 of ‘The Big Bang Theory’
The entire cast of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ was earning well. A new season would have been more expensive, but the series would have comfortably recovered the money in no time. However, as per Parsons no one ever mentioned the thirteenth season.
During the podcast, Parsons talked about how he believed, undoubtedly, they would have done more seasons of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ if they would have agreed to as a group. He further revealed that they never really got an offer. So, there was never a moment in which he actually said no to an amount of money or a contract. There was nothing according to him.
The character of Sheldon is the property of fans
Jim Parsons also spoke about his character Sheldon Cooper that weirdly has his own life. That was something he felt for many years, not just about his character, but about the show in general.
“All of us who worked on the show no longer had the claim on it, in a weird way, that the audience did, and the people who loved it and watched it did. Part of it was that we could never have that vantage point because we were making the sausage. But, some of it has to do with the fact that when a show goes on that long and is successful and connects with people, it sort of becomes their property.”
He conveyed that the character of Sheldon is the property of the audience. He has a unique relationship with that character, obviously. Everybody else also had a unique relationship with that character that Parsons could not fully see and understand, but felt was a beautiful thing. He further added that he did not know that he would have it any other way. He also did not want the responsibility anymore. In the end, Parsons felt that his character Sheldon could carry on in reruns without his help anymore.
