Cheeky, sardonic and perceptive – ‘The Office’ is one smart comedy
The series served as a sarcastic take on the atmosphere of a company called Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and the lives of its employees. ‘The Office’ was an unabashed parody of the corporate life with its acerbic dialogues, unforgettable performances and candid scriptwriting. With popular actors such as Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, B. J. Novak, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms, James Spader, Craig Robinson, Catherine Tate, and Ellie Kemper on board, ‘The Office’ had one of the most star-studded line-ups of actors during the its telecast on NBC.
The first few seasons did remarkably well in terms of ratings. The first season attracted more than 11 million viewers, however, when lead actor Steve Carrell left in the seventh season, the viewership of the show took a considerable hit, with only 5 million people watching the finale. Today, the series has a cult following and even the critics have nothing but good things about the series.

Why do we need a reunion?
Episodes 24 and 25 of season 9 were called ‘Finale’ and were the last episodes of The Office. The last season was set 1 year after the release of the documentary featuring ‘The Office’ workers. The last season was full of bittersweet emotions as there were weddings, children, new businesses, new partners and so much more. Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam(Jenna Fischer) were shown quitting at the end but were instead fired by Dwight (Rainn Wilson) so that they could receive hefty severance pays.
The finale was pretty much everything the viewers were expecting and seemed a good way to conclude its iconic nine years run.
Has NBC given the nod to ‘The Office’ Reunion?
NBC has bought The Office from Netflix for a whopping 500 million dollars and by the end of 2020, the show will be available for streaming exclusively on Peacock. There are no plans to have a reunion yet but even NBC executives hope for it to happen in the future.
Bonnie Hammer, NBC’s digital enterprise executive recently said, “It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot. The Office comes back to us in January 2021. It is my hope that we can figure [out] what that great reboot would be.” She continued saying, “We are having conversations.”
Showrunner Greg Daniels also doesn’t believe that the reunion is happening any time soon. He was quoted saying, “I don’t think that we would either be able to get all the cast together — because a lot of them are doing different things — or whether we’d really need to do that. Because I feel like we had our finale.”
NBC executive, Bill McGoldrick indicated that the reunion is definitely in discussions as he went on record to say, “We’ve talked about things we can do to support The Office once it gets to our service. But a reboot has not come up specifically for Peacock.Lots of those ideas have been bandied about with people internally and with Greg Daniels and people associated with the show. As you can imagine, there are lots of creative ideas. We haven’t landed at any one right now.”
Even though the reunion is not in the works right now, don’t lose hope.It is still being deliberated upon and may in the coming years finally be made. So, till then, lets keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
