Who died in season 5 of ‘Luther’?
Popular series ‘Luther’ premiered in 2010. It began with DCI John Luther (Idris Elba) investigating the murder of a couple. After interviewing their daughter Alice Morgan, he immediately found out that she killed them. But due to lack of evidence, he could not arrest her. Even though Alice has a murderous history, she and Luther shared a unique relationship throughout the series. They ended up often relying on each other in difficult situations. Alice has usually helped Luther crack some of the most intricate cases by helping him peek into the mind of a murderer.
However, fans were shocked to see Alice’s ending in season 5 of ‘Luther’. Luther had always promised Alice that he would never lie to her. But when he lied, Alice could not take it. After an investigation, Alice killed Luther’s partner, DS Catherine Halliday (Wunmi Mosaku). In a shocking moment, Alice fell from a fifty feet ledge and died. Alice’s death after five successful seasons shocked everyone.
Nick Cross talks about the fate of ‘Luther’ Season 6
The finale episode of season 5 of ‘Luther’ earned a massive viewership of 4.6 million. Its first episode was also a big hit that beat the ratings of ‘Doctor Who‘. Hence, it was assumed that either the network or the creator would soon reveal details about season 6 of ‘Luther’. Especially since season 6 ended with such a massive cliffhanger.
Finally, after two years since the season 5 finale, creator Neil Cross gave details about the fate of ‘Luther’ Season 6. He mentioned there would not be any more upcoming season of ‘Luther’. However, he also said that there would be an official announcement soon regarding a spin-off movie along with Idris Elba and director Jamie Payne.

Recently, in another interview with “The Sunday Post”, Cross confirmed his plans for ‘Luther’.
“All I can say I am afraid, as there will be an announcement soon.”
Cross also shared that both Idris Elba and he are really excited and neither of them can wait for the announcement so they can finally properly talk about it.
Idris Elba talks about a ‘Luther’ movie
During the Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards 2020, Idris Elba spoke about doing a ‘Luther’ movie.
“I have maintained that I would like to see [Luther] come to a film. That is what I think we are headed towards, is a film. I am looking forward to making that happen. It is happening!”
Said Elba.
He further shared that creator Neil Cross is beavering away on penning this factor, and he feels the remit for the movie is to scale it up. With a ‘Luther’ film, the sky would be the limit as you can be a little bit bolder with the storylines, more international, and also up the scale. But Elba confirmed that John Luther will always be John Luther.
Elba felt that ‘Luther’ has all the ingredients to echo classic films such as the ’90s like Seven’ and ‘Along Came A Spider’. He explained that is what they would like to attempt and use as a blueprint to create it. It will be more murder, more Volvos, and a more frowning Luther. Essentially, he felt they just want to try and take it to a much bigger scale and perhaps international as well.
Fans of ‘Luther’ can finally rejoice after this great news. The only character missing from the ‘Luther’ movie would be of Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson). We all remember that Wilson’s character died at the end of the season 5 finale. But earlier she did fake her death in the end. So, will she be back in the spin-off movie?
