This introduces the studio and Duffer Brother to a new problem of the increasing age of the cast. Reports suggest that makers might give the show a time jump to 90s to deal with the issue of the gap between the age of characters and actors. However, do you know that Stranger Things’ original plans always had a time jump? A time jump not to 90s but the modern days.
Do you know Stranger Things’ original plans always had a Time Jump?
It’s indeed true. As per duffer brother’s original plans for Stranger Things, the show was supposed to have multiple time jumps. However, the plan didn’t work out. But looking at the current need of the situation amid the delays in filming, it seems like Duffer Brothers and Netflix can go back to the original plans of having a time Jump.
Actors are outgrowing their characters – time jump is needed.
The main reason behind the fans and sources expecting a time jump to 90s is the age of the cast. Stranger Things begin shooting in 2015 and was premiered in mid-2016. The age of the key young stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin, was around 11 to 12 years back then, and same was with their respective characters, Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas.
In the real world, its been over five years since the show begins production, however, the show’s timeline has only travelled from 1983 to 1985. This has made the cast look elder than the characters they portray. Now, Season 5, which is expected to be the final for Stranger Things, is going to premier no sooner than 2022 or 2023.
That is 8 to 9 years since the beginning of the show. By then the actors will hit the final stage of their teenage and will begin looking like a 22-year-old. While the characters they will portray will only be 14-15 years old. This is going to bring some serious trouble.
Thus, fans think that giving the show a time jump is the only way to make up for the delay. Though the Stranger Things’ original plans always had a time jump, we need to see what the makers will decide.
Original Plans for Stranger Things had a time jump after each season.
The original plans for Stranger Things were much more different and absurd. In the early scripts, the Duffer Brothers had decided to begin the show from the 80s and bring it to the modern days through multiple time jumps. The show was supposed to have a time jump from the 80s to 90s at the beginning of Season 2, and after that, every season was supposed to have a time jump of over a decade.
This way, by jumping from one decade to another in each season, the show would have had its final season set in the modern days. However, the plan didn’t work out, and the makers dropped the idea. But now, as the time jump is becoming the necessity, Duffer Brothers might think of at least one time jump to 90s.
