In a surprising reveal, one of the “not-so-important” ‘The Witcher’ character might return for season 2. However, we are not sure if this is good news. Let’s see what is in store for the fans!
From new character castings to filming updates, there are updates and news flooding in about ‘The Witcher’ Season 2. Since the show is back on track after a long halt due to the shooting restrictions amid the pandemic, the creators and Netflix are in no mood to delay the season any further. Only a few days ago, news of ‘The Witcher’ creators looking to cast ‘Game of Thrones’ star Jason Momoa for lead in the prequel ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin‘ was reported. Though there has been no confirmation about that news, we have yet another news to report.
- A minor character from ‘The Witcher’ to return in season 2
- Why this return might not be good news?
- There’s another less scary way
As per this latest report by “Redanian Intelligence”, a “not so important” character from ‘The Witcher’ Season 1 might return in season 2. And while we don’t know how important this return might be, it might not necessarily be good news.
A minor character from ‘The Witcher’ to return in season 2
There’s no count of how many women Geralt (Henry Cavil) has crossed paths with during his life through all those centuries. And we have no reason to remember them as most of them served no purpose but one, in his life and in the story. Yet, one such female character from ‘The Witcher’ Season 1, who served no greater purpose in the story, is all set to return for season 2. Though we don’t know the exact reason behind this, we’ll soon figure it out.
As per a report from “Redanian Intelligence”,
“Danica, played by Imogen Daines, will return to the second season of ‘The Witcher’ and will appear in one of its first episodes directed by Stephen Surjik”.
For those who don’t remember her for obvious reasons, Danica is the sex worker we saw lying beside Geralt in episode 3 of the first season. You might remember the scene in which she was feeling the scars on Geralt’s body.
The return of such a minor character makes no sense in the story, and what’s absurd is it being worthy of a mention. This makes us wonder what important role she might be playing in season 2. However, the news of this return has scared fans for all the understandable reasons.
Why this return might not be good news?
To all those who watched ‘The Witcher’ Season 1, we understand how frustrating all those abrupt time jumps were. Till almost episode 4 “Of Banquets, Bastards, and Burials” of season 1, when we were confronted with the connection between Geralt of Rivia and Ciri (Freya Allan), fans were given no clue to realize that the show was jumping through 3 different timelines for Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) continuously. This gave the fans a severe headache.
The showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich accepted this flaw in an interview with “The Wrap”. But she also explained the need for this technique to tell the story created by the author Andrzej Sapkowski.
However, she also stated in the same interview: “What’s great though is [the characters] have intersected now. So what we’ll see in season 2 is that all of our characters are existing on the same timeline.”
This has raised hopes amongst fans, as now they are sure that there would be no more abrupt time jumps. However, it was later revealed that the show still might have flashbacks from several different timelines.
The fact that a character from season 1 is going to appear in ‘The Witcher’ Season 2 as well, might simply point towards those flashbacks. And this brings us back again to the one thing we fear for in ‘The Witcher’ Season 2.
If a character like Danica is going to return with the use of flashbacks, we can only imagine the number of flashbacks the key characters might have.
There’s another less scary way
The reason Danica can only return through flashbacks and not just cross path with Geralt casually is that our last encounter with her was not in the current timeline.
The scene in which Geralt and Danica were together was in the timeline before Ciri was born. Thus, the only other way her character might return in ‘The Witcher’ Season 2 is as an old woman. If she’s still alive, she must have grown old by now, and that’s how she might make an appearance. Or else, the flashbacks are the only way.
What do you think of the importance that Danica’s character might have in season 2 of ‘The Witcher’? And will she be returning through flashbacks?
