Is ‘The Vampire Diaries’ reboot on cards?
With 16 action-packed episodes, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ concluded season 8 on March 10, 2017. On June 23, 2016, season 8 was declared to be the last instalment of the vampire series. But, with the current wave of revivals and reboots in the industry, rumours and news of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ reboot wasn’t far behind.
Talking about the reboot with “Deadline”, Julie Plec said, “I do not have a spinoff in the works, but yes I have spinoff ideas in my brain”.
Plec added, “I’m constantly looking and layering in ideas for where to take this genre universe and this franchise, so it’s not out of question that I would explore other ways to keep the universe alive”.
Speaking in the same vein about different ways of keeping the show alive, Somerhalder was quoted saying, “The show’s never going to die. We’re going to continue to be able to watch it and I think that’s a really interesting new thing about this modern digital world”.

Elena and Damon to make a comeback, but not Nina and Ian?
Season 8 of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ ended with Damon and Elena living the “human” life, getting married, and having a daughter, who they fondly name Stefanie. They finally reunite with their respective families in the afterlife- Damon meets Stefan, and Elena is finally united with her long-lost family. But, what happens next? What new adventures does Mystic Falls have in store for the reunited brothers? These are some questions that propel fans to keep demanding a reboot at all costs.
But, will the creators and actors give in to this demand? Will Nina, Ian, and Paul get a chance to return to the “teen” drama series?
Dismissing rumours of Somerhalder and Wesley reprising their roles in a highly in-demand reboot, Plec said, “I think Ian and Paul have said it best recently that no one is going to find them credible in about another six months as eternally youthful vampires. So, any spinoff ideas probably involving those two probably are pipe dreams”.
The actors themselves bid good-bye to their roles with season 8.
In an interview with “Entertainment Weekly”, the vampire brothers shared their post-show and reboot plans.
Wesley said, “I think I’m closing the chapter. It’d be funny if we did a reboot (where) we’re all old as shit”.

Somerhalder jokingly mentioned, “In 10 years I’m going to be living probably on a ranch in Wyoming and you’ll never hear from me again”.
But, reflecting on Wesley’s statement, he added, “I think it’s good to close this chapter. There’s something beautiful about closure”.
Well, according to sources, Nina Dobrev also refused to reprise her role of Elena Gilbert, if there were ever to be a reboot.
Thus, it’s safe to assume that even though Damon, Stefan, and Elena might be returning if a reboot materializes, it’s definitely a no-show for Ian, Paul, and Nina.
