It is reported that J.J. Abrams is producing the Superman movie reboot. Back in 2013, Zack Snyder introduced to the world the new ‘Man of Steel’, the new Superman, played by Henry Cavill. Since then, he became a rage among fans. Later, he went on to play some great roles. Recently, he was seen playing Geralt in ‘The Witcher’ and as Sherlock Holmes in the Netflix movie ‘Enola Holmes’. He is highly appreciated as an actor. But his stint as Superman didn’t bring a lot of success to the DC franchise. Though he was also seen in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League’. Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ will be his last role as Superman when it releases next month.
Before Henry Cavill as Clark Kent aka Superman, Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh played the superhero.
Cavill’s future career as Superman has been in doubt since 2018 when reports of his exit as Superman first surfaced. Though the rumours were refuted at the time, nothing was said about Cavill’s return as the ‘Man of Steel’. Recently, in May 2020, there were rumours that Cavill was in talks to return as Superman. But it seems like the talks broke down. Perhaps DCEU is looking to reboot the franchise entirely.
The next Superman
“Deadline” is reporting that JJ Abrams is producing the next Superman movie. Ta-Nehisi Coates, the author and Black Panther comics writer, is writing the script. No plot details, premiere date, or casting is known. But it is known that Hannah Minghella is set to serve as a producer on the film. “Shadow and Act” additionally reported that casting has not been finalised for the role of Kal-El. This implies that Warner Bros and DCEU will have a new actor don the cape.
The new Superman movie
Considering Ben Affleck’s exit from the DCEU as Batman, it’s not surprising that Henry Cavill will be replaced as Superman. Snyder’s original plan for the DCEU was revoked, with his version of ‘Justice League’, releasing on 18th March 2021, on HBO Max likely to be the last of his vision realized. Warner Bros. has already laid the groundwork for the introduction of new versions of established DCEU characters, with ‘The Flash‘ movie introducing the multiverse and Robert Pattinson playing the new Batman. How the new Superman will be introduced remains to be seen, but it’s clear that you won’t find Henry Cavill donning the cape.
Also, it would be interesting to see if Cavill will return to pass the torch to the new Superman just like Ben Affleck is doing by returning for ‘The Flash’ movie. Let us know in the comments box below if you would accept any other actor as Superman, other than Henry Cavill.
