‘The Superman’ actor decides to hang up the cape and move on to other projects after learning about the developments in the Flash movie.
Henry Cavill has been at odds with the DCEU and Warner Bros. (the studio that makes all DC movies) for quite a while now. It has been years since ‘Justice League‘ released. Since that time, all the actors who are keen on continuing their work in the DCEU have gotten their movies. This is evidenced by Gal Gadot’s ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman’ and upcoming ‘Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom’ (which just recently started production), and the untitled Flash movie.

- How the Flash movie forced Henry Cavill to leave DC
- Henry Cavill distancing himself from the role of Superman
This implies that any of the original ‘Justice League’ actors who aren’t working on upcoming DC projects are not going to continue in their roles. Evidence of this can be found with the recasting of Batman. It is now Robert Pattinson who will play The Dark Knight instead of Ben Affleck.
Henry Cavill’s Difference of Opinions With Other DCEU Actors
The actor has a history of standing out among his other DCEU co-stars. This is why it is not a stretch to say that Henry Cavill is leaving the DCEU.
After the ‘Justice League’ movie was taken over by Joss Whedon, all the actors wanted Zack Snyder to remain in control of the movie against Geoff John’s (Former head of the DCEU) will. But only Henry Cavill supported Joss Whedon and the changes made to the movie. Another example of this is when all the ‘Justice League’ actors tweeted #ReleaseTheSnyderCut to participate in the online movement to release the ‘Justice League’ movie as Zack Snyder intended it to be. Henry Cavill was the only one who did not show any support for the Snyder cut despite being on social media. When he did finally embrace the Snyder cut, it was too late because the movie was already scheduled to be released on HBO Max.
Henry Cavill’s Failed Contract Deals
Another reason why Henry Cavill is leaving the DCEU is because of failed contract negotiations. When Henry Cavill was in the process of renewing his contract for retaining the role of Superman, the negotiations failed due to unreasonable requests from the actor.
Henry Cavill wanted control of who would be chosen to direct the second Superman movie. He also asked for an unreasonably high price that Warner Bros. did not agree to.
To further complicate the negotiations, Henry Cavill refused to film a cameo in the ‘Shazam!’ movie.
At the end of the ‘Shazam!’ movie, Billy Batson turned into his Shazam alter and asked Superman to visit the school that the Shazam kids go to. These kinds of cameos are very common through franchise movies, like how Iron Man showed up in the Spider-Man movies. But Henry Cavill refused to film the cameo and the movie had to use a stunt double instead.
This was not only embarrassing for the movie but a major misstep on Cavill’s part as it was when Warner Bros. decided to move on and focus on other projects not involving Superman.
Warner Bros. Making Projects of Other Characters Instead of Henry Cavill’s Superman
It was recently announced that the DCEU will have a Superman reboot with a Black Superman. This could likely be the Val-Zod version of Superman (Superman from another Earth). Using Val-Zod in the movies means that the DCEU can focus on another Superman instead of Henry Cavill’s version.
In recent photos leaked from the shooting of the untitled Flash movies, Sasha Calle was seen in her costume as Supergirl. The version of Supergirl that the actress is playing is supposed to be the daughter of Superman and Lois from an alternate timeline.
Henry Cavill learnt about the new characters and how that meant that his version of Superman would not be required in the DCEU. Soon after this he decided to unfollow Warner Bros. on social media platforms and has moved to new roles with studios like Paramount and Netflix.
