2020 is going to be a rather busy year for actor Henry Cavill. He has not one but two giants up his sleeves- Season 2 of Netflix’s surprise 2019 hit ‘The Witcher’ and the much-awaited ‘Man of Steel 2’ with DC Entertainment. But, what about ‘Mission: Impossible 7’?
In ‘Mission: Impossible-Fallout’, Henry Cavill plays CIA agent August Walker, who’s paired with IMF star Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) for a skydiving mission to stop a nuclear explosion. In a wonderfully complex manner, Cavill delivers as an unfussy, relaxed, corporate evil. His broad, muscular build totally sells the action sequences, and that, paired with his smirk, creates a sharp humour that can never be taken lightly. After this memorable performance, fans were naturally expecting to see him return in ‘Mission: Impossible 7’. Unfortunately, Cavill has other plans. Read on to find out more.

Cavill’s ‘The Witcher’ Season 2 to resume shoot on 17th August
With a viewership of over 76 million households, ‘The Witcher’ became the surprise hit of 2019. This was the highest first-month viewership of a series debuting on Netflix. Henry Cavill of ‘Man of Steel’ fame plays the lead as monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia in the fantasy drama based on a novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski.
The show was in the middle of season 2 production when the pandemic hit Europe, following which Netflix ordered the producers to shut down filming until further notice. To add to their misery, cast member Kristofer Hivju also tested positive for COVID-19. The set had to be deep cleaned and sanitised for future filming. But, now that the pandemic is somewhat in control, Netflix officially announced on Twitter that ‘The Witcher’ Season 2 will restart filming on 17th August 2020.
A lot of precautionary measures will be in place as the show is filmed at Arborfield Studios, nearly 40 miles away from the city of London, which was a red zone during the pandemic. ‘The Witcher’ Season 2 is set to release in 2021, thus crunching the production period to less than a year. Thus, Cavill will be busy in the second half of 2020.
Henry Cavill wants to focus on the future of Superman
For the rest of 2020, Henry Cavill will be working on the production of ‘The Witcher’ Season 2. Once that is over, he will reportedly shift his focus to ‘Man of Steel 2’.
Owing to the global shutdown, everything has gotten delayed, and ‘Man of Steel’ is no exception. Reports suggest that ‘Man of Steel 2’ is not currently on the table and Warner Bros. does not have any plans to produce it any time soon. The studio currently seems to be focusing on other DC films that are already in the pipeline, like ‘The Batman’, ‘Aquaman 2’, ‘Black Adam’, and ‘Shazam 2’.
Despite no official confirmation from Warner Bros. Pictures regarding ‘Man of Steel 2’, in an interview with “Men’s Health” last year, Cavill said if needed, he will fight for the role.
He said, “The cape is in the closet. It’s still mine. I’m not going to sit quietly in the dark as all the stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet”.
‘Mission: Impossible 7’ to restart production in September, without Cavill
‘Mission: Impossible 7’ was slated to release on 19th November 2021, but the ongoing pandemic has caused a major disruption in plans across the entertainment industry. Following the film’s shutdown earlier this year, the cast and crew are set to restart filming in September.
Simon Pegg, playing Benji Dunn in the franchise, confirmed in an interview with “Variety” that resuming in September is “the plan” so far. He added, “That will begin with the outdoor stuff. That feels fairly doable, and obviously, there will be precautions put in place”.
Working as the lead for all the ‘Mission: Impossible’ movies since 1996, Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt has become irreplaceable. Additionally, him being one of the lead producers of the franchise has almost cemented his position in the series. The supporting cast keeps changing as per the changing plotlines and script requirements.
