‘The Witcher’ Season 2 will surely be thrilling for Henry Cavill fans as the actor will return with yet another nuanced, swoon-worthy performance!
Excluding cryptic behind-the-scenes stills and a strange Christmas mashup, Netflix hasn’t divulged any details for ‘The Witcher’ Season 2. The streaming service has kept viewers in dark for the last few months, and it doesn’t seem like any big revelations are on the way. ‘The Witcher’ made waves with its arrival in the last few weeks of 2019. It had been a long time since Henry Cavill starred in a television series, especially ones with themes of fantasy. He portrayed the role of Geralt of Rivia, a white-haired, monster-hunting mutant, who finds himself in a world where humans are often more wicked than beasts.

The show is adapted from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novel series, and fans who have made it to the end of the books know that things don’t end well for Geralt. The only question is: When will the unthinkable happen?
Revisiting ‘The Witcher’ finale
Let’s quickly revisit the unexpected season 1 finale! ‘The Witcher’ ended with Geralt and the Child of Surprise aka Ciri finally meeting, after eight episodes leading up to it. As per the short story “Sword of Destiny“, Geralt will take Ciri to Kaer Morhen after meeting her, where she trains to become a Witcher. Now that the characters have met in season 1, the next will surely follow through.
Yennefer fought and won the Battle of Sodden, but on unleashing her chaos, seems to have sacrificed herself in the process. Fans presume the sorceress just needs time to heal after harnessing the fire that drained her of her magical powers. The finale ended leaving viewers confused about Yennefer’s fate, the defeated Nilfgaardian army, and what would happen now that Ciri and Geralt have met. The first season drew inspiration from the author’s book of short stories, and the future ones will surely dive deeper into the Witcher world.
Will Geralt aka Henry Cavill die in the season 2 finale?
With online sources reporting the third season to be in the making already, it’s hard to imagine the show without Geralt. He is the grumpy, yellow-eyed protagonist of the series and everything happening in the universe has relevance to him. Fans have different opinions of what actually happens after the fighting in the Rivia at the end of the Witcher saga. It’s a fact that young Ciri has strange visions and dreams at Kaer Morhen, including some that revolve around Geralt’s death.
The truth is: Geralt is prophesied to die, regardless of what happens. In the books, the monster hunter does, unfortunately, die after Rivia’s second war with the Nilfgaardian Army. Lucky for us, the show follows a different route from the books, focusing on different timelines and more characters.
Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has often confessed to doing things differently because she wants fans of the series to appreciate the details in Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels on their own. Even if Geralt is destined to die in the series, it won’t be before a fourth or fifth season, because there’s just so much ground to still cover!
Who all are returning for ‘The Witcher’ Season 2?
Everyone you met in season 1 is coming back! Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Geralt, Anya Chalotra will play sorceress Yennefer, and Freya Allan will play the former royal and runaway warrior on the rise, Ciri. There are some exciting additions to the cast including Tormund Giantsbane fame Kristofer Hivju! The Norwegian actor will be playing Nivellen, a cursed man who lived in the secluded woods near Murivel. Stories of his “monstrous” nature were used to scare young children.
‘Killing Eve’ actor Kim Bodnia will play the Continent’s oldest and skilled Witcher, Vesemir, and a mentor to Geralt. The character’s inclusion in season 2 indicates that there might be flashbacks to Geralt’s early training days. Maybe Vesemir will take on the duty of training Ciri? We’ll find out soon!
