Here’s exploring whether the quirky workplace comedy could return for another season on NBC.
Workplace comedies are always wonderful to watch. They have the unique ability to put very different characters in the same context (the workplace), and playoff the dynamic and spark that results from it. ‘The Office‘ did something like that, going on to become an iconic show in a short time. Another workplace comedy, however, won’t be able to showcase this anymore. ‘Superstore’, a sitcom about a bunch of eccentric employees, and starring America Ferrera, is officially ending after season 6. Set in a discount warehouse store called Cloud 9 store 1217 in a town in America, ‘Superstore’ was especially praiseworthy by the way it doled out funny moments even while dealing with serious issues. All the ‘Superstore’ episodes were consistently hilarious, and the social commentary was on point.

The likelihood of ‘Superstore’ Season 7
While fans were hoping that the release date of ‘Superstore’ Season 7 would be announced soon, it now turns out that there won’t be any ‘Superstore’ Season 7. In a statement, executive producers Justin Spitzer, Gabe Miller, and Jonathan Green said, “We’re grateful to Universal Television and NBC for letting us make 113 episodes of a show we’re so proud of, and for giving us the chance to work with such an incredibly talented group of actors, writers and crew … We’ll do our best to go out strong and give you the satisfying ending you deserve”. The show is really ending.

The unavoidable changes that made it difficult for the show to go on
But why is ‘Superstore’ ending? The show has been undergoing changes in the last few months, which may have affected the producers’ mindset when it came to continuing with the show. Like with most other shows, ‘Superstore’ wasn’t spared from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. When the pandemic was first declared, it led to the hurried shutting down off productions of many TV shows, and ‘Superstore’ was one of them.
But the primary reason seems to be Ferrera’s exit from the show. The actress had announced that she would be exiting the show at the end of season 5, to be able to focus on other projects. In view of the way the pandemic has affected TV production, networks are now wary of what shows to reprise for more seasons. The exit of the main character is always a risky business for producers since such exits are known to really affect ratings. ‘Superstore’ was an underrated but good sitcom, and we really wish it could’ve got a renewal. But Netflix seems to be the designated rescuer of good cancelled/ended shows. So, now we can’t help but hope ‘Superstore’ will be picked up by Netflix sometime soon!
