Thousands of viewers who watched ‘Good Omens’ will agree that it was an amazing show and they would love for it to return. But, the first season of the show adapted the entire book on which it’s based, leaving no content for a possible second season.
However, creator Neil Gaiman is hinting at the possibility of a sequel that will still feature David Tennant and Michael Sheen in the lead. ‘Good Omens’, a British-American drama series based on the 1990 fantasy novel called “Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch”, written by Neil Gaiman and his late friend Terry Pratchett, hit the screens on May 31, 2019, as a joint venture between BBC and Amazon.

The series follows the duo of demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale, who have stayed on Earth for millions of years and are now accustomed to it. Together they seek to prevent the coming of the anti-Christ and with it, the final battle between heaven and hell. In a recent interview, the show creator Gaiman hinted at the possibility of penning down a sequel to the lighthearted, six-part drama series. Intrigued? Read more to find out.
Cast of the show
The series is studded with a dozen A-list actors who form an exciting ensemble making the experience of watching the series all the more delightful. In the drama, Michael Sheen stars as the earth-dwelling angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as his demon counterpart Crowley. Besides, Jon Hamm is seen in the role of an angel Gabriel – the angel rival to Aziraphale. Benedict Cumberbatch gives voice to Satan while McDormand lends his voice to God’s role.
Anna Maxwell Martin plays the role of Beelzebub alongside Josie Lawrence who stars as Agnes Nutter, who supposedly wrote a book on the prophecy that comes to unfurl on the show. But, it’s not just that, there are a host of other characters including the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse, Metatron, and even William Shakespeare, who, we predict, may find their way into the sequel too.
Neil Gaiman teases the possibility of a Good Omens sequel
Gaiman, who co-wrote the novel with the late Terry Pratchett, recently spoke to entertainment portal “Digital Spy” and opened up about his on-going projects, and a sequel to ‘Good Omens‘ was brought up in the conversation. Interestingly, the author hinted that he is considering a second season and that it isn’t impossible.
“I think the probability is pretty good. It’s not like anybody doesn’t want to make more ‘Good Omens’. We just need to figure out how and when and all of the various ifs and sort everything out. Plus, we’re in the COVID world right now where nobody even knows how to shoot big drama. There are problems that none of us quite know how to solve”, Gaiman said.
Gaiman is also keen on pulling his lead actors to return to their respective roles where Tennant and Sheen play Crowley and Aziraphale.
“We’d all love to do it, so it’s really just a matter of seeing if we can actually make that happen in the world if we can make the time happen if we can work it with everybody’s schedule. I know I’m not the only person who wants to see more Crowley and Aziraphale”, Gaiman stated.
‘Good Omens’ Season 2 release date
‘Good Omens’ Season 1 made its debut on May 31, 2019, on Amazon Prime Video, with all the episodes being available to stream in one go. As far as the question of next season’s release date goes, an official announcement is yet to come from the showrunners. But, looking at the positive reviews from audience and critics alike, we highly doubt that the show will be cancelled after one season. We will update this section as soon as we hear an official word.
We can’t wait to see Neil Gaiman back to weaving stories effortlessly and packing moments with meaningful lessons in an extremely fun way in the sequel too. Hopefully, if ‘Good Omens’ Season 2 happens, we will get to see Gaiman repeat his magic.
