Aside from key characters like Rory and Lorelai, there were plenty of interesting characters in the Gilmore Girls show. Their ambitions, vulnerabilities, and rebellious nature lured fans into admiring them. One of such highly admired character was Lane.
However, towards the end of the show, her character was ruined due to poor writing. Since then, fans of the show have been expressing their desires on what kind of storyline they think might have done justice or will do justice to the character of Lane.

Throughout the first six seasons, fans connected with Lane like no other character. They backed her for her musical ambitions and cheered up for her whenever she rebelled for her freedom.
Everything was ruined in Season 7 when Lane was suddenly married to Zach and became pregnant with twins. This left the fans who admired her for her original nature heartbroken.
The hope of fans to see Lane’s original character revived in “A Year in the Life” was never fulfilled by the writers and the creators of the show. She remained unchanged from where we left her in the Seventh season of the show.
Why everything went wrong with Lane’s character?
Season 7 of Gilmore Girls and the revival series ruined the character of Lane and her storyline in every possible way. The girl who chose her rational interests over her mother’s belief throughout the show; who snuck out in the nights to peruse her musical career; who dated secretly, and when was getting oppressed left her homes’ comfort and build her life on her own, was suddenly married and was settling with pregnancy in the final season. Lane left her ambitions; she became what her character repelled the most.
But why it all went wrong?
It all went down-hill due to the writer swap in Season 7. Amy Sherman-Palladino, who created the show from its Season 1, didn’t write the season 7, and that’s where things went wrong as per the fans.
However, when Amy Sherman-Palladino returned to write the revival series, it made no difference to Lane’s storyline. In “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”, the creators picked up most of the character from Season 6 i.e. undoing their Season 7’s development. However, in the case of Lane, she remained the same pregnant Lane with whom we weren’t happy in Season 7.

There have been no official reports on whether the creators are working on a Season 2 of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”. And a second revival series seems a too far fetched possibility. However, if in case a second revival for Gilmore Girls happens, the fans on Reddit have expressed what storyline they wish to see.
One Reddit user wrote on Reddit that he wishes if Lane can still get a storyline where she pursues her passion for music. The fan wrote, “Lane should have owned a record shop like the one from NYC”.
This comes as the fact that she’s a mother now, and a wife. So having a business could mean pursuing her passion while taking care of her responsibilities.
Another Reddit user asked “Justice for Lane Kim!” in a thread.
He wrote, “Does anyone else think that Lane’s relationship with sexuality is super tragic? I just feel so sad whenever I watch the episode where she comes back from her honeymoon and tells Rory she can drop the act and stop pretending sex is good.”
As per the fan, a storyline exploring Lane’s struggle with her sexuality could be exactly what she deserves.
