Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life has broken so many hearts, that even the idea of a season 2 for the miniseries feels daunting. The fall of everyone’s favorite series was already plotted and executed well in its final season. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2 will be a mistake
As everybody on this planet knows, Gilmore Girls was one of the finest comedy-drama TV series in the past decade. It debuted on The WB in October 2000 and ran for six successful seasons and concluded with a not-so-well received 7th and final season in May 2007. The series, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, had a huge fan base until it was almost ruined in the final season.
However, when the creators of Gilmore Girls announced a revival mini-series named Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life for Netflix, fans were extremely hyped. They knew what a revival could mean for their favorite show. But after almost a decade of the original show’s conclusion, the revival premiered on Netflix in November 2016, and it turned out to be a dampener. Thus, fans are concerned that a season 2 of the miniseries could be a bigger disaster.
Are there any hopes from the revival?
There can always be a revival. But if Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life tries to continue the story in season 2, then there is no hope. Apparently, the original show had already ruined some major storylines in season 7. When the revival came, it further spoiled those characters and some other characters as well.
Ruining Lane Kim’s character
Remember how we always adored Lane Kim (Keiko Agena) for her passion for music and her rebellious nature? Well, the original Gilmore Girls series ruined it all in the finale season. Lane, who became an inspiration for many for her love of freedom, ended up being married to Zach, and the cherry on the top was being pregnant with the twins.
Though neither marriage nor pregnancy ruins a character, when analyzed in the context of the show, it was a bummer. Fans hoped that the revival might do some good to her character. But it was an even bigger disappointment. There seems no way to undo the damage while continuing the story.
Can You Match The “Gilmore Girls” Character To Their First Line? (Quiz)
Fans on Reddit have even shared ideas to blow some life into Kim’s character if in case the show continues. One of the fans said, “Lane should have owned a record shop like the one from NYC”. However, we really doubt any ideas now can bring back the Kim we loved.
The messed-up end for the miniseries:
Even though the miniseries was a disappointment in its entirety, but the ending ceased any possibility for a comeback. What happened with Lane Kim in season 7, happened with Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bedel) in the revival series. Everyone’s beloved Rory was revealed to be pregnant and single in the final moments of the show.
Alexis Bedel herself was disappointed by the fate of her character. She even expressed her disappointment during Deadline’s Emmy Contender Panel.
She said, “It certainly wasn’t the ending I was expecting. I told Amy that I hoped Rory would end on a high note. After all her hard work, I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving. So it was a hard thing for me to digest.
Though a comeback is always possible, if the creators are willing to continue with the same story in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2, then it’s a predestined disaster. Only if the characters are revived once again, and treated as they deserve to be treated, then this mistake can possibly be corrected.
