Gilmore girls originally debuted in 2000 until the show ended in 2007. The series was revived with a 4 part episodes plot in 2016 with original casts Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as leads.
Gilmore Girls is back after season 7
After the end seven season, fans began to have serious discussions about wanting a new season or at least a spin off. Lucky for them, their wishes came true as the series was revived in 2016. The series got a lot of attention for being as original and authentic as it used to be. The most noteworthy moment throughout the series was to witness how Lauren and Alexis had aged so beautifully.
While fans have been eagerly waiting for another installation of the series, they have already figured out which character could have a possible spin-off.
Jess and his spin-off
Three ideas of a spin-off were presented to WB and later CW at the time of shooting season 1 to 7. In season 3 in the episode “Here comes the son” is when writers from WB thought of a Jess spin-off. This episode was originally supposed to be the pilot but writers couldn’t go ahead with it since to shoot at the required location would’ve become an expensive affair.
In the series, Jess is shown leaving star hollows because he can’t go to prom. He struggles his way out of the town, reaches somewhere across the country and finally finds a link to his father. But his return to the east coast has never been explained. However in the later episodes of Gilmore girls, he is living in New York city, and later, Philadelphia.
Reddit fans shared that Jess’ character would make a great spin-off which would entail his life in Philadelphia, his successful book deal and his relationship with his estranged father. While the idea sounded good, WB thought the series would be too cheesy and ultimately a flop.
Rory’s story could be a great spin-off series
Another possible spin-off that would make fans happy would be Rory’s. While Alexis Bledel, who plays Rory, had never acted before but made a deep impact, fans took to Reddit to suggest a few ideas for the spin-off.
Tiffo1981 suggested a “Lorelei and Rory pre-GG, after moving to Star Hollows” PHfan95 said, “I would have liked a spin-off of Lorelie and Rory travelling Europe. No boyfriend drama, just a fun filled mother daughter trip.” But if there were no boyfriend drama, an ordinary trip wouldn’t last that long.
According to cheatsheet.com, “Seeing Rory take her first wobbly steps into adulthood could have been an exciting concept, especially considering the show left off with Rory heading out on the campaign trail, but it seems unlikely that Rory’s character could have carried an entire show.”
The WB originally wanted a Luke Spin-off
While Jess and Rory spin-offs sound good, a Luke spin-off was supposed to happen, but didn’t anyway. In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Amy Sherman-Palladino pitched a Jess spin-off to the WB but instead got asked about a Like spin-off.
”I had been asked by the studio to spin off Luke, I was like, “You’re gonna take Luke out of Stars Hollow? He’s the person [Lorelai] is going to be in love with.” A year went by and I knew that [Jess] was going to have to leave the show because you couldn’t keep a kid like that in Stars Hollow. He hated it too much. I always wanted to do a show in Venice because it’s not the O.C. It’s not rich people and pristine white beaches. That’s when I said, “If you still want a spin-off, I’ll do this.”
Regardless of whose character gets a spin-off series, fans would definitely like to see one. What are your opinions on this subject? Let us know in the comment section below.
