American dramedy, ‘Gilmore Girls’, had everyone in its grip until it was taken off the screens after a seventh and final season. Fans were overjoyed when the popular show, that centered on the relatable lives and relationships of a mother and daughter, was renewed by Netflix as ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’. However, what Netflix started might have been the end to our favourite ‘Gilmore Girls’ in action.
‘Gilmore Girls’– The most relatable relationship on the planet
Agreeably, the relationship between a mother and her daughter is an incredible albeit a love-hate one. Just like any other mother and daughter, Lorelai and Rory share a warm and inexplicable bond that is unique to them. Dunked in a perfectly balanced potion of love and warmth, ‘Gilmore Girls’ have made us identify with its bold and beautiful characters. Mixed with equal parts of drama and comedy, the popular American show reflected on the wonderful journey of Lorelai and Rory as they set off to explore themselves and each other.
‘Gilmore Girls’ exhibits the free spirit and the bold choices of an independent woman, Lorelai, who became a teenage mom at sixteen and decided to take up the challenge of raising her daughter, Rory, all by herself. The show goes on to follow Lorelai’s witty daughter, Rory, in her adventures as she attempts at mapping her way through dreaded adolescent life.
The relatable and enriching lives of this incredible mother-daughter pair had everyone eating out of the palm of their hands when the creators finally decided it was time to drop the curtains. Fortunately, Netflix answered the prayers of the fans and brought out a reboot, ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’, in 2016.

The end of an era for our favourite mother-daughter pair
As the Palladinos ended the show that made it for them, talks about a comeback for Lorelai and Rory as a part of another reboot has been making the rounds. The truth is, a second comeback for ‘Gilmore Girls’ is not on the cards yet and ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’ might have marked the end of an era for the show. In an interview with Vogue, Amy Sherman-Palladino said, “This was the story that we wanted to do. We wanted to do this year— a year in the life. So we accomplished what we wanted to do. We didn’t go in there with any intention of wanting to do more. There were no discussions between us and Warners or us and Netflix of having any more”. The reboot ended on a shocking note with Rory announcing her pregnancy to Lorelai and it’s a no brainer that we want to know who the father is and how Rory starts her journey of motherhood.
Although a second reboot might be on hold, one can always hope! Who do you think is the father of Rory’s baby? Comment in the box below.
