Netflix’s big-budgeted biographical retelling of Queen Elizabeth II’s life, ‘The Crown’, is returning for a much anticipated fourth season! After the intriguing first three seasons, fans are curious to experience the events that unravel in the fourth. The upcoming season is expected to showcase some of the darkest moments in the history of Britain’s monarchy.
Highlights:
- Princess Diana will be central to the darkest chapter of the series
- The Crown season 4 to premiere on Netflix on Sunday, November 15th
- When can we expect to see a full trailer?
The first two seasons featured an award-winning performance from Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II. Foy was applauded for her elegant, sophisticated performance of the Queen, that she portrayed alongside Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby. But The Crown season 4 will see Olivia Colman return to reprise her role as her Majesty, The Queen!
The fourth chapter is expected to be the finest, and will highlight events of great importance to the monarchy’s history. With new members of the royal family making appearances, the story is progressing towards the Thatcher years of the 1980’s. Let’s see what the new preview says for season 4, and when a full trailer will be released!
Princess Diana will be central to the darkest chapter of the series
Helmed by Peter Morgan, the historical drama series makes no compromise to transport the viewer to the monarchy’s momentous years. The cast changes every two years to reflect chronological progression, and Foy passed on the worthy baton to Olivia Colman. She will wear the crown for the last time in season 4 before Imelda Staunton folllows in her footsteps.

The fourth season is expected to cover the Queen and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s (played by Gillian Anderson) clashing perspectives. The Apartheid in South Africa, miners’ strike of 1945 – 1985, the Falklands war, Buckingham Palace break-in will ideally be depicted. And of course, viewers will be acquainted with the woman of the era – Diana, the Princess of Wales.

Princess Diana will be significant to the plot, and giving the existing timelines, the season will largely focus on her. Her trials and tribulations, and transformation from a young woman to the woman of the era will be seen too! Some viewers expect to see the birth of Prince William and Prince Harry as well. Showrunner Peter Morgan might also explore the time of difficulty and grief faced by the monarchy during Princess Diana’s death.
The Crown season 4 to premiere on Netflix on Sunday, November 15th
The first-look of the series focused on Princess Diana and her meeting with the people of England. There are glimpses of her first official visit to Australia with Prince Charles and scenes that depict her troubles. The preview ends with a breath-taking frame of Diana in her iconic wedding dress, that we daresay, gave viewers goosebumps.
With Emma Corrin playing Princess Diana, the cast also includes Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip. Helena Bonham Carter will reprise her role as Princess Margaret, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten. But we’re particularly thrilled to see Gillian Anderson lead the 1980’s as Margaret Thatcher, the UK’s first female PM.
The preview revealed that the upcoming season would be available to stream on Netflix, on November 15th. If you really think about it, it’s not that far away! We’re certain the complete trailer will reveal more information about all that is in store, but there’s time for that.
When can we expect to see a full trailer of The Crown season 4?
The first-look teaser dropped not too long ago, so we’re predicting there’s a month until the complete trailer comes out. Considering the trailer and release patterns from the previous seasons of The Crown, we’re guessing it’ll release sometime next month!
The trailers of the first three seasons have all usually arrived in the month before the season premier. November 15 is the release date for season 4, so it wouldn’t be wrong to presume that Netflix could release the trailer in mid-September or October.
If you still haven’t watched The Crown, now is a great time to catch up. The series genuinely seems to understand the extraordinary world and events that surrounded the Queen when she was first crowned.
