Five rules that every Marvel actor has to follow to survive in MCU:
MCU is one of the most profitable movie franchises to exist. It had churned over $17 billion in the first decade of its beginning from the movies it produced, and a greater number from the merchandises, parks, and other stuff. Disney, that owns Marvel now, had bought the studio for $4 million in 2009, and since then, it controls every aspect of it.
Other than the production and release of the movie, Disney even controls the actions and image of each and every actor that joins MCU. There are several rules that every Marvel actor has to follow to keep Disney happy.
1. Keep your mouth shut – one of the rules every Marvel actor has to follow
Yes, it sounds like a lot and something that actors and stars never practised. But keeping your mouth shut is one of the main rules of Disney. The actors can’t speak more than they are allowed in any interview or press meeting. This rule is to keep in check that no one spoils the movies before their release. It’s so serious that if Disney founds an actor spoiling on purpose or out of habit, he might end up being thrown out of the Marvel universe.
2. Keep your hands and image clean
Disney is very image-conscious. It has served as a family studio from decades, and it wants to keep it that way even with its superhero movies. Thus, the actors are required to not associate with any activities that might hinder its popular image, including any sorts of controversy even off the camera. Disney attempts the background check of every actor while casting, and it also works towards keeping their image as per its mould. Staying true to Disney’s image also means vising children’s hospital, doing charity, etc.
3. Don’t interfere in the creative process
Marvel prefers the actors to not have a say in the making of the movie. The actors who prefer to have their creative stand on the movies they are going to work in aren’t welcome in Marvel movies. Each movie in MCU is a part of a greater interlinked universe, and none of the actors knows what one scene might mean to a movie releasing 10 years later in MCU.

Thus, Disney and Marvel prefer to have entire creative control in their hands. Edward Norton, who played Hulk aka Bruce Banner, in The Incredible Hulk, was later asked to walk out from the studio for the same reason.
4. Never say no to the reshoots
This is one of the hardest rules that every Marvel actor has to follow. As all the Marvel movies are interconnected, there are issues that movies might face during post-production due to some changes in another movie being produced at the time in MCU. Because of this, every Marvel actor has to sign a contract that they will appear on the reshoots regardless of where they are and what project they are working on. Many Marvel actors have suffered this and have termed it as torture.
5. Give up the rights to deny any appearance
As you know that due to MCU being interconnected, there are always instances when one superhero appears in another superhero movie. This appearance might be decided at the very end draft of a movie. To deal with that, Disney makes every actor sign an agreement, according to which they can’t deny appearing in any movie of MCU as long as they are part of MCU. Even if the appearance is as small as a few seconds of a cameo, the actor needs to agree.
All these must sound like crazy rules be followed by an actor. But these five are not the only rules that every Marvel actor has to follow. There are rules like following the diet and workout as per the studio, not performing too extreme stunts, never talk what’s in the script, never deny to attend a press tour, etc. The list is as long as the line-up of the characters in MCU.
