Sarah Michelle Geller has been quite vocal about not intending to return to the reboot of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. So, who will be the new slayer? Let’s find out.
‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ premiered about to twenty-nine years ago and went on for seven successful seasons without so much as a hiccup. The show created a loyal following for itself as the audience began exploring the fantasy world of Buffy Summers and the Scooby Gang. Fifteen years after it left the screens, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ has been picked up for a reboot and it will be different from what we expect.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is everything you would expect and more
Written and directed by Joss Whedon, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ gave a new definition to the genre of fantasy horror in the American TV industry. The show received huge votes of appreciation for delivering content that was fresh and unusual. It is the story of Buffy Summers, the slayer from the title, who along with her friends, the Scooby Gang, defends Sunnydale against dark forces, vampires, and demons. Although Whedon took the idea for his show from the 1992 American film of the same name, his version rose to the occasion and then a little more. Starting from the narration to the execution, everything about Whedon’s version was minutely carved with details. The show was a fascinating rendition of Whedon’s artistic capacity and it rightfully earned him the fame he deserved.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ killed it on the TV screens for seven amazing seasons and bid us farewell in 2003. Two years ago, it was announced that ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ will be making back to our screens with a reboot. The news was received with mixed emotions. While some feared that it might ruin the legacy of the show, others were just happy that they’d be able to see some slaying action on the screens. As for the producers, they promised, “Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.”
Sarah Michelle Geller Refuses to be a Part of the Reboot
If Whedon was the genius behind the art, Sarah Michelle Geller was the one who gave his art its life. Sarah Michelle Geller played Buffy Summers, the vampire slayer in the show and the role put her on the map. Sarah Michelle Geller had become so integral to the show that it is almost painful to imagine it without her. Even then, the actor didn’t feel it would be right for her to come back in the reboot for ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’.
Sarah told “The Wrap”, “I think that it’s a great story and I’m glad that it will get retold and hope that people will watch it. But, you know, I’ve told my story with it. For me, the beauty of the show was the madness and horrors of high school manifesting in actual literal horrors. And I may look young, thanks to all my Olay products, but I don’t look like I’m a kid.”

Who will be the New Vampire Slayer?
The announcement of the reboot for ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ revealed Monica Owusu-Breen as both the writer and executive producer for the reboot. Unexpectedly, Owusu-Breen intends on providing a fresh twist to the reboot of the show. She wrote on “Twitter”, “For some genre writers it’s Star Wars. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my Star Wars. Before I became a writer, I was a fan. For seven seasons, I watched Buffy Summers grow up, find love, kill that love. I watched her fight, and struggle and slay. There is only one Buffy. One Xander, one Willow, Giles, Cordelia, Oz, Tara, Kendra, Faith, Spike, Angel. They can’t be replaced. Joss Whedon’s brilliant and beautiful series can’t be replicated. I wouldn’t try to. But here we are, 20 years later…and the world seems a lot scarier. So maybe, it could be time to meet a new Slayer…And that’s all I can say.”
Clearly enough, there is a new vampire slayer waiting for us in the reboot, albeit we don’t know who it is yet. What we do know is that the new cast and the new adventures have a tough hill to climb before they can meet with our expectations.
