It’s definitely hard for superheroes to pardon the lives of the criminals, but with a no-kill policy, Daredevil stands out. However, it seems like even Daredevil has had a few slips and might have killed someone, even if by accident. Keep reading to find out more!
Superheroes are known for their high ideals and sticking to them, no matter what (unless you push them off the edge, of course!). The biggest example of the goody-goody virtuous superhero should be Captain America, but their others too. Ironman finds ways to take responsibility for his actions and Batman doesn’t kill unless you REALLY piss him off. Following in the lines of Batman is also Daredevil, the dark one of the superhero world, with a no-kill policy. How firm is he in his no-kill philosophy though? Has the Daredevil killed someone whom he just couldn’t pardon? Find out here!

Daredevil’s no-kill policy is shaky
The superhero from ‘Hell’s Kitchen‘, Daredevil is different from most superheroes. While some find the vigilante a little similar to Batman in style and in his no-kill policy, the truth is that the two could not be more different. Daredevil does not have the privilege of Bruce Wayne and is only equipped with a billy club, superior martial art skills, and sharp senses.

In terms of his no-kill policy, however, Daredevil could be a little compromising sometimes. Although he usually finds ways to spare the lives of the criminals, for the most part, his no-kill policy is not set in stone. Daredevil has been in situations where he has gotten someone killed even if it was by accident. In fact, there have been some instances where he has killed in cold blood.
Some villains that Daredevil has fought against have been killed by a series of circumstances initiated by him or have been killed by the vigilante. That being said, in the other cases, mostly, he ended up killing the people accidentally. Such situations, expectedly, filled our dark superhero with remorse and guilt.
Reports suggest that there are alternative realities where a different Daredevil has faced and handled circumstances differently. The point being that although Daredevil has had more than his fair share of pain and suffering, ideally he is not above causing suffering and even death in other people.
Charlie Cox on whether Daredevil has killed someone
On the question of whether Daredevil has killed someone or not, Charlie Cox, the actor who plays Daredevil for the Netflix series ‘Defenders’ explained that it is a bit of a gamble. If we go by his opinion, it would be to say that Daredevil’s no-kill policy is not a concrete one and we agree. Cox said,
“You know, in Season 1, Episode 2 when he throws the guy off the roof — that’s a gamble, you know what I mean? … So, you know, I think his no-killing record is slightly by chance at this point”.
However, Charlie Cox maintains that there is a clear difference between murder and killing. That is to say, for Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, if someone is killed at a time when he has waged war against evil and crime, then that should be considered as collateral damage. Cox agrees that the moral compass on which Daredevil operates, vis a vis beating the shit out of people where they are nothing more than a vegetable, is definitely loose. He said,
“And also, there’s a couple of times where, there’s a scene in Episode 4 of Season 2 where he goes to rescue The Punisher in the catacombs, and as he comes in, he then beats up a couple of guys, knocks them out, right?.. and as they are leaving, those two guys are still knocked out. If they are not dead, they are seriously brained. If you get knocked out and you’re still knocked out half an hour later, that’s not good. It’s a slightly loose moral compass at times, you know what I mean?”
Fair enough!
People Daredevil has killed
Even if you choose to believe that Daredevil has never killed or gotten someone killed, the truth is that there is a pretty long list of people who have died in his hands. As per the comics, the most important person that Daredevil kills or rather creates a circumstance for death is The Fixer. The Fixer appointed men to beat Daredevil’s father to death and, naturally, sweet revenge paid him back. Daredevil chases the old man into a subway station to an extent that his aged heart could not take the strain and dies of a heart attack. Daredevil might not have killed The Fixer with his own hands, but he definitely laid the grounds.
Among some of the other characters that Daredevil killed accidentally, circumstantially, or intentionally are Empath whom he kills out of mercy, Typhoid Mary, Tiepin, Richard Fisk, The Fist, and you would not believe this – Spiderman!
