What has been the story up till now?
In the last two seasons, Claire and Jamie have made a home for themselves in North Carolina, North America, with their daughter Brianna. Brianna has also made a home for herself in North Carolina with her husband Roger and their son Jemmy. The fifth and the latest season of ‘Outlander’ takes us back in time during the onset of the American Revolutionary War.
Jaime and Claire raise a militia together to fight against the Regulators. Claire devotes herself to discovering penicillin, however, she fails to make any progress. Roger is saved by Claire, Jaime, and Brianna as he is being hung to death by the British before being rescued.
Although he did not die, Roger’s throat was hurt pretty badly. In the final episode of the fifth season, Claire is abducted and raped and then rescued by Jaime, Roger, and their men.
What can fans expect from season 6?
‘Outlander’s’ Sam Heughan has recently spoken out, informing the fans of the show that the season six filming has entered a hiatus due to Covid-19 concerns. The sixth season is expected to have 12 episodes, much like the fifth season.

The showrunners have confirmed that the sixth season will be based on the sixth book in the ‘Outlander’ series, that book being Diana Gabaldon’s “A Breath of Snow and Ashes”.
The show has chosen to stick with its routine of following along the book series, with each season coinciding with its same numbered novel. Current ‘Outlander’ showrunner, Matthew B. Roberts, has also confirmed that “right now, season six covers book six” in a recent interview.

“Season six brings us closer to the Revolutionary War, and Jamie and Claire will encounter a new group of settlers in and around Fraser’s Ridge”, said Matthew in an interview with a leading Hollywood magazine.
“For Claire, this is going to be an ongoing journey of recovery, she will probably try to plow on and get back to normality, but I don’t think she’s fully aware of just how difficult, subconsciously, and psychologically, that’s going to be for her”, said Caitriona Balfe in an interview about the last episode of the fifth season in which Claire gets brutally beaten and raped.
Claire explains to Jamie that she can’t let the rape shatter her – and the final scene has her telling him she feels safe in his arms. However, there will surely be long-lasting psychological and emotional trauma, which the viewers will watch her cope with, in the sixth season.
Jeffrey Hirsch, president and CEO of Starz, has expressed that he is open to the idea of a seventh season for the smash hit show and said that “As long as the fans continue to crave the story, we’ll continue to have ‘Outlander’ on the air. We are constantly talking to our partners at Sony and the show continues”, in a recent interview.
Who will comprise the cast for season 6?
‘Outlander’ Season 5 saw quite a few cast changes, however, season six will most likely not see any drastic changes. Fans can expect the most likely return of Caitriona Balfe as Claire, Sam Heughan as Jamie, Richard Rankin as Roger, and Sophie Skelton as Brianna in the next season. Members of Fraser’s Ridge — including Fergus (César Domboy) and Marsali (Lauren Lyle), the twins Josiah and Keziah (Paul Gorman), and Bree’s handmaid Lizzie (Caitlin O’Ryann) can also be expected to return to the show.
We also now know that Claire’s rapist Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy) will not be returning to the show although his brother, Richard (Chris Larkin) will be returning in the next season. Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) will not be back following the events of a battle between the British and the Regulators in which he is killed.
When can we expect season 6 to air?
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the entire entertainment industry has come to a sudden halt. The sixth season of ‘Outlander’ will most likely not air this year as the filming hasn’t been completed nor a trailer released for it. Fans should brace for a long waiting period to watch new episodes of the show.
