What was Ian Somerhalder’s take on ‘The Originals’? What did he think about his character’s appearance on the spin-off series? Let’s find out.
Till today ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ is loved by fans all over the globe. Since its end in 2017, fans expected actors Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley to make an appearance on its first spin-off ‘The Originals‘ that dived deeper into the world of vampires, witches, hybrids, and werewolves. While the series featured many stars from the original series, we could not help but wonder about Ian Somerhalder’s take on ‘The Originals’.
- Is Ian Somerhalder bitter about ‘The Originals’?
- Does Damon ever appear on ‘The Originals’?
- Will Paul Weasely ever appear in ‘Legacies’
Is Ian Somerhalder bitter about ‘The Originals’?
Joseph Morgan as the formidable Klaus Mikaelson was introduced to the audience in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 2. He continued to appear on the show in season 3 and 4 as well. Soon, The CW decided to award the Mikaelson’s with a series of their own. Right after the first episode of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 5, premiered ‘The Originals’. Apart from Joseph Morgan, the spin-off starred Daniel Gillies as Elijah Mikaelson, Phoebe Tonkin as Hayley Marshall, Claire Holt as Rebekah Mikaelson, and more. While fans of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ were elated at witnessing the spin-off series, it seemed as if Ian Somerhalder was rather bitter about ‘The Originals’.
During the Wizard World Philadelphia 2019, Somerhalder was asked his favourite ‘K’ villain from ‘The Vampire Diaries’: Katherine, Klaus, or Kai? To which he replied:
“They were all amazing on their own. Klaus really ticked me off because he left and went and got his own show. Rude. Oh my gosh, we by ‘we’ I mean Paul and I were so bitter with ‘The Originals’ because we lost all of these amazing actors. Like, those were our peeps, dogs.”
Somerhalder also jokingly mentioned how all of them had these amazing accents. He further appreciated Joseph Morgan for his portrayal as Klaus.
‘The Originals’ ended after five seasons in 2019. Just after that, Klaus’ daughter, Hope Mikaleson, also got her own spin-off show in the form of ‘Legacies’.
Some of the characters from both ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘The Originals’ have made their way on ‘Legacies’.
Does Damon ever appear on ‘The Originals’?
After the inclusion of various known characters such as Tyler Lockwood, Caroline Forbes, and Alaric Saltzman on ‘The Originals’, many people expected Damon Salvatore to appear on the series too. His love Elena played by Nina Dobrev and Paul Weasley also made a brief appearance on the spin-off series.
In an interview with “Entertainment Weekly”, Ian Somerhalder made it pretty clear that he was done with his character Damon Salvatore. He talked about how in 10 years he will be living on a ranch in Wyoming, and you will never hear from him again. He also added that he felt it is good to close the chapter as there is something beautiful about closure.
Now that ‘The Originals’ has ended, Somerhalder still has the chance to feature in the ongoing spin-off series ‘Legacies’.
Will Paul Weasely ever appear in ‘Legacies’?
One hope that every ‘The Vampire Diaries’ fan still holds onto is the return of Stefan Salvatore. Sadly, Stefan sacrificed his life in the show’s season 8 finale. We saw him reunite with his brother Damon at the end of his long human life. During a CBS All Access’ TCA panel, Paul Wesley talked about his character Stefan returning through some magical power on ‘Legacies’, since it has been done before.
To this Weasely instantly answered that he never sees that happening.
“Can you imagine in like ten to fifteen years, we are so old looking, and Ian Somerhalder comes out, you know? It is like, oh gosh, no, you can not”
He further jokingly explained that vampires have eternal youth. However, that is unfortunately not the case with them. Since they would need to put special-effects on his face, that is how he knows he needs to quit.
Sadly, we will have to accept that Stefan Salvatore is peacefully dead for good. Although fans did get to see Weasley be part of the spin-off series ‘Legacies‘. He made a return to the vampire world to direct an episode of ‘Legacies’ Season 1. If not on-screen, it was nice to see the actor get involved with the show.
