After Reese Witherspoon’ reboot application, now AMC has placed a huge bet by renewing the old series, Mad Men, for season 8 to reverse the trend of the network’s plunging revenue.
Once upon a time, AMC took the best bet on Mad Men by launching it as its first original series. Five years later, Mad Men is all set to return for season 8 to revive AMC’s lost fortune due to a drop in revenues.

Don Draper hasn’t changed a bit in the last 5 years and is back to try the transformation once again when Mad Men returns with season 8.
The drop in revenue forces AMC to reboot Mad Men for season 8
AMC Network has posted a 10.8 percent drop in advertising revenue for the first quarter and has predicted a nearly 30 percent decline in the second quarter. The plummeting revenue due to COVID 19 led shutdown in productions is just the beginning, according to the AMC officials.

They want to take huge steps to revive the income. In order to reverse the trend, the AMC network is relying on the old series Mad Men that, 13 years prior, had brightened the fortunes for the network. AMC is looking to reboot the Don Draper led Mad Men for season 8. The network has placed its trust in Mad Men season 8 because the series still has a wide fan following.
When Reese Witherspoon filed an application for Mad Men reboot
More often than not, we hear the tease for Mad Men season 8. Last year Reese Witherspoon, undisputedly the mogul of the golden age of television, declared that she is rebooting Mad Men for season 8. Her Twitter post went viral enthusing fans all over the world.
See the post here.
Reese posted a 60s image of herself and wrote: “Hey January Jones, how am I doing? Thinking of submitting this image with my #MadMen.
Obviously, when Emmy winning actor and producer Reese Witherspoon makes a statement, everyone takes it seriously. A year later, AMC actually understood the madness in fans for Mad Men and is renewing the show for season 8 to spark the growth.
When will Mad Men season 8 release on AMC?
You must have seen a lot of Mad Men like shows that came, and quickly failed, and went away. So, what kept Don Draper led Mad Men on air for 7 seasons, sweeping many Emmys along the course of their journey. The series must thank the AMC network for holding it through the initial tough times.

According to AMC Networks president Ed Carroll, “The network was looking for distinction in launching its first original series and we took a bet that quality would win out over formulaic mass appeal”.
AMC was hell-bent on rebuilding itself as a hub of great television and didn’t mind low viewership for a while. The way Mad Men focused on telling stories from the perspective of “Why did that happen”, instead of “What happens next”, still remains a unique storytelling format.
The stakes are high on the early production of Mad Men but there hasn’t been an official announcement from the AMC network yet. It is too soon to predict the release dates for Mad Men season 8 now.
Mad Men began as a story of men, led by Don Draper, who tried to change but could never change. In season 8 of Mad Men, Don Draper will try changing himself one more time and, one more time, will most probably fail to do so (or not? Who knows what’s in store for viewers?). It is left to be seen if the makers want to follow a similar pattern in Mad Men season 8, and whether the reboot of the series will reboot the fortunes for AMC as well.
