The Doctor is coming back for season 12 in January 2020. While fans are super excited about this, there have been reports that this might be the last Christmas/New Year season that we get a ‘Doctor Who’ series. Let’s find out if this will be the end of the series!
Over the decades, the ‘Doctor Who’ series and movies have given us some great Christmas holiday memories. There have been many doctors that we saw over the years. When Jodie Whittaker became the face of the show in 2017, it was a revolution of sorts. Everyone had high expectations from series 11 of ‘Doctor Who’. But the series was unable to capture the essence of the main character. Now, with BBC’s ‘Doctor Who’ series 12 in the pipeline, rumours about this being the end for the show is gaining momentum.
Heads Up!
- Did anything change with Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor?
- Series 11 was a massive failure.
- Will Series 12 of ‘Doctor Who’ be the last? What might be the reason?
It was with high hopes that the audience welcomed Jodie Whittaker in the shoes of their consistently loved science fiction character. Also known as the ‘Thirteen Doctor’, she is the reincarnation of the Doctor.

Over the years we have seen many actors play the character. This is thanks to the fact that the Doctor can regenerate his/her body whenever death is near. In fact, this ‘regeneration’ changes the physical appearance and personality of the protagonist. The first actor who played the Doctor dates back to 1963. And, now after approximately six decades, we are heading into 2020 with the possibility that there might not be a ‘Doctor Who’ series ever again. Introducing the Doctor in a female reincarnation was the last resort for the franchise. But the makers probably never anticipated that it would fail.

Series 11 was a failure
When series 11 ended, the audience was left dissatisfied. In fact, it was only with series 12 of ‘Doctor Who’ that even the makers admitted that part 11 was a failure. For series 12, early reports said that it will be more like the Davis and Moffat eras. This was a clear indication and admission of the view that season 11 was a failure.
More recently, in an interview, the lead actors from ‘Doctor Who’ series 12 were asked about the upcoming show. Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole talked about how the upcoming series will be bigger and better with loads of new monsters. It almost seems as though the makers have put in all possible efforts to revive the initial charm of the show.

‘Doctor Who’ series 12 is doomed
The makers of the science fiction show are doing everything they can to make series 12 work. But fans are still unsure whether this series will be any better than the last.

‘Doctor Who’s’ fan base is getting thinner by the day. On top of that, there is very little hope from series 12. If the 12th series walks the same path as that of its predecessor, there might never be a ‘Doctor Who’ series 13.
We hope that the makers are able to weave enough magic in the show and don’t end up disappointing the devoted fans. This might be why rumours about the show ending have been doing rounds.
Here’s hoping series 12 is able to redeem the show. Let us know if you want a new season. Write to us in the comments section below. And, keep coming back to DKODING for more such interesting stories.
