It’s possible that what started out as fan-casting will become a reality soon. According to unconfirmed reports, actor John Krasinski will play Reed Richards as Mr Fantastic in the upcoming Marvel film ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, a sequel to ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is part of the MCU’s Phase 4 and sees Doctor Strange dealing with the multiverse fracturing caused by his botched spell in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. Given the film’s multiverse theme, it got reported that the film would include cameos from several actors portraying various versions of popular Marvel characters.

Krasinski’s surprise cameo as ‘Fantastic Four’ rumours
According to a new report leaked by The Illuminerdi, one of the appearances will involve Reed Richards, aka Mr Fantastic, who will be played by John Krasinski of ‘The Office’ and ‘Jack Ryan’. Since Marvel Comics created a bearded version of the character that resembled the actor a few years ago, John has been a fan favourite for the role. There have been countless petitions and even fan art depicting John as Mr Fantastic, but Marvel has yet to provide an official statement.
It was reported earlier this year that John had been cast as Mr Fantastic in the film, with his wife Emily Blunt playing his character’s wife Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman. Emily, on the other hand, was quick to dispel these rumours. Emily mentioned on The Howard Stern Show in May 2021 that it is fan-casting. “No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Would not that be great”?

Such denials, however, are no longer meaningful to Marvel fans. After all, Andrew Garfield vehemently denied being in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ for two years before finally appearing in it. Fans have gained confidence as a result of John’s willingness to appear in ‘Doctor Strange 2’. “I think to be a part of the Marvel world would be amazing anyway, and the fact that people would even consider me for that level of a part would be amazing”, the actor told ComicBook.com last year.

Reed Richards is the captain of the Fantastic Four in comic books, which includes himself, his wife Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman, brother-in-law Johnny Storm or The Human Torch, and Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. The character has already appeared in two ‘Fantastic Four’ films. Ioan Gruffudd portrayed it in the ‘Fantastic Four’ films of 2005 and 2007. Miles Teller played the character in the film’s 2015 reboot.
When will the premiere of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ take place?
‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ is set to be released in theatres on 4th May of this year. In addition to Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, and Xochitl Gomez, it stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role.
According to Deadline, the film’s reshoots have recently ended. The reshoots are part of Marvel’s efforts to increase the film’s cameo count.
