Are you regretting taking this month’s Netflix subscription? Even months after its release, Avengers: Endgame is missing from the OTT platform. And the fact that your colleague is re-watching (and re-re-watching) the epic movie on some other OTT, is, undoubtedly, a little hurting. Will ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ever stream on online streaming platform other than Disney Plus?
Will ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ever make it on any other OTT’s screen, say Netflix, Amazon Prime, or the upcoming HBO Max? As the year is about to end—and HBO Max is still far far away—the wait and hope are both dying down.
Heads Up! This is what the article contains
- Will Avengers: Endgame air on Netflix?
- Will Avengers: Endgame air on HBO Max?
- HBO Max launch date
Will Netflix viewers ever get to see Avengers: Endgame on their devices?
Someday, yes. But no, not this year. A story that started in 2015 makes these answers so confident. Netflix and Disney struck a deal that all the movies released from January 2016 to December 2018 go live on Netflix and remain there until the end of 2019. This span sadly does not include the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe entries. Thus, both Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel are not available on Netflix.
Their future depends on a future deal. Things would have been smooth and like clockwork had Disney Plus not debuted. Disney’s OTT platform is all about Marvel. In fact, it is becoming so popular only because of the Marvel Phase 4 projects. And despite all the complaints that the viewers have, they continue to carry Disney Plus in their devices.
To compete with Netflix, Disney Plus has this one resource, Marvel. Unless the OTT establishes itself, it is highly doubtful that the rights would pass onto Netflix.
Logic defies that Avengers: Endgame would come to Netflix before everyone on the planet has already watched the movie at least twice.
But what about HBO Max?
Will Avengers: Endgame air on HBO Max?
HBO Max is far away in the future. It will launch in May 2020. By that time, Disney Plus—which was launched in November 2019—would have created a viewership for itself. It will be a safe bet for Marvel and Disney to let HBO Max have the right to showcase the highest-grossing-movie-ever on their platform. But will HBO Max want that?
Currently, it seems Disney Plus has more Marvel superheroes than any other character.
Disney Plus is, in fact, on the path to becoming a second home for MCU superheroes in between their silver screen projects.
Would HBO Max want to include Marvel movies when it could (very easily) become a similar (and profitable) hub for DC superheroes? We believe in and wish to see the latter happen. What about you? Would you rather see ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on HBO Max instead of a hot-selling DC movie (which will probably never go live on Disney Plus)?
